Swollen Eye on my veiled

This is something I hate to admit -- I can't afford to take my dear Artemis Prime to the vet. It's not that I am choosing not to take her because I need to spend money elsewhere -- it's that I literally don't have the funds to do so.

It hurts me to no end to know that she may be suffering -- and to know that there is nothing I can do other than keep her comfortable.
:(

*cries*

Call the vet and explain your situation and maybe the vet will work with you. Do you have no way to borrow the money?

It could be something as simple as having something in her eye. Give it some time - it may flush out.

yeah something like that happened to my cham too recently but it went down after about a week. it wasn't constant though, it would randomly puff up. is his/her eye always like that?

Her eye has never been like that before Monday.

Just spoke to the vet office. Minimum charge is $82.50 for exam and consult and I'd have to drop her off tomorrow morning and they would "admit" her. I'd have to pay the $82.50 when I drop her off.

After that she would be examined over the next 24 hours and they would call me letting me know what the recommended course of action is plus the cost.

They don't offer any payment plans or anything like that and I have no where I can borrow from right now.

i dunno what to tell ya then :( dont over-do it but keep the cage a little more moist than usual for a few days and see how it goes

Every couple of hours during the day I am flushing the area around her eye with tepid water and rubbing it so very gently.

The area looks a bit less inflamed then yesterday. But not much.

Someone I know said a very small amount of Polysporin around the swollen area might help -- but to be sure not to get any in the eye itself. Anyone else think it might be a good idea?

Little update.

The swelling has gone down significantly so far -- not completely gone, but definitely down.

The swelling has almost completely gone now.

There is still a little bit of excess skin around her eye from where the swelling was, but she's looking much better.

Treatment included running her eye area under tepid water for a minute two while gently palpating the area around her eye twice a day for about a week.

I also doubled how often I spray down her tank.

Thanks for your info folks!

Hello, I just joined but I've noticed something similar to this in my chameleon. I've read an article saying that sometimes they can get high blood pressure and blood wells up behind the eye. They need a diet change but the article didn't say to what.:S I'm not sure if it's the same case with my Mystique because her's only seems to pop out when she's trying to swallow a cricket and then goes away almost immediately after. I was assuming perhaps that the cricket may have just been a bit too big and was applying pressure to her sinuses.

I'm really sorry to hear about your vet... seems a little harsh that they're not willing to try and work with you to save your pet.:S I unfortunately have NO herp vets in the area or I'd ask them about it at least to get some information for ya.:(
