Tapeworms

Hey Guys, i just brought my new cham, the one that had the prolapsed hemi, to the vets last week. He did a fecal check and told me he had tapeworms and gave him a shot. I apologize for not knowing what he gave him, but my question is; do they only need a one-time med for these? None of my other ones had it so i don't know but i do know with alot of parasites you need to treat 2 x. Once for the worms and the second time for the eggs that hatched. Does anyone know? I would really appreciate it. By the way the link that someone posted about Malagian translations was cool. I named him Avana, which means rainbow.

Howdy Debby,

The treatment is usually done a 2nd time 2 weeks later. Your vet probably used Praziquantel (Droncit or Mobay) which can be injected under the skin or into muscles or given orally. The recommended dose is between 5-8mg/kg of chameleon weight.

Thanks Dave. That is what i thought i will call him tomorrow to confirm. He did give him an injection.

Ok get this. I called my vet today to mention i thought he needed another shot for tapeworm eggs and his reply was " Don't worry about it. Reptiles always have parasites anyway. He recommended just doing a fecal 2 x a year. I think i should insist on the second shot. Do you think i am correct?
I think he might be confusing the chams with the tortoises because that is exactly what he said to me when i went there.
