i have a 8 week old male veiled cham..he was poorly but hes better now...

i used to be able to pick him out of the tank and place him on the plant ..he went a lovely colour...


but recently he opens his mouth wide open and now hisses at me and goes to bite me when i put my hand in..


he neva used to do that


whats changed??? any1 got any ideas
 
As you had stated, your cham was doing poorly. Because of that he may not have had the energy to rebel or show his aggressive side.

And again, as you stated he is better now....the aggression he is showing when you attempt to pick him up is normal behavior and more then likely a good sign towards his health.

Chams in general, but specifically veileds can have quite the temper. Most don't take kindly to handling of any kind and will often puff up and hiss, sometimes even bite. These aggressive behaviors are usually signs of a healthy cham.

If you want a more detailed answer and analyses of your chams health you may want to fill this out:

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
Location - Where are you geographically located?

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.
Current Problem - The current problem that you are concerned about.
 
Sounds like he may be feeling better, lol! :D They are not the friendliest of chams! Amy likes to stomp around and huff and puff at me sometimes!
 
ahh..fair enuf..so its normal...glad im seeing it then...my mate has a 2 year old male veiled i went to pick him up and it went for me....i shouted f***k and almost put the glass thru!!!!


butim glad this is associated with a good healthy cham..i shall prob cut down on the handeling side and leave him to it for a bit..lol
