the pics everyone has been waiting for! (petco veiled) these are not pretty!

Amanda I can't remember did you take this guy in or did a friend take him in? Talk to the owner of the vet clinic and see if they are willing to work with you on the price. Explain that he was taken in since he had health issues and you are tying to help him.

my friend took him in, and ill have to see, i havent heard of any vet clinics around here..

I also agree, as soon as I saw the pics I wouldn't say he has MBD, or burns. I'm glad I'm not the only crazy person who thinks so lol.

He actually looks quite healthy considering. I think the problem with him is a deformation of the spine, looks like a hunch back or something, that would definitely affect the back legs. Like Trace said, looks genetic, not care-related. IMO if it was MBD, the spine would cave in, not expand out like that.

He also looks a little fat in the belly, could be impaction. Impaction can immobilize the back legs as well.

That said, with these pics.....I would put it out there that Petco is the victim here and got shammed by a breeder/wholesaler sending them the worst individual in the clutch!

im quite confused...because i was told when the cham came into petco a month or two earlier, he was fine and could use both back legs..but if it was a deformation, wouldnt he always be like that??

He is a very handsome little guy. I'm kind of jealous! I'm glad too see he is in proper care now. I agree with most of you. His health issues seem a bit skeptical. It's hard to determine what exactly is wrong with him. Just keep looking for a different vet. As far as I've been told, most pet stores do not even have herp vets. And I've been told this by the people that work there. He could have possibly been misdiagnosed, or not diagnosed at all. Keep up the good work. I wish you and him both luck. :)

Well there is what people tell you, and what is the truth.

I'm just going by what I see.

Also, most chain pet stores have a regional buyer, and the store has nothing to do with the selection of animals.

I'm not defending Petco, I just think they've been attacked unfairly in your 3 threads about this.

Also, 2-3 months is a lot of time for a small chameleon to grow to that size. Untrained eyes may have seen that as a healthy chameleon to begin with, but as he grew, so did the malformation.

This is just IMO, I don't know the facts. You may have noticed I am always Devil's Advocate in discussions, don't take it personally. :) I admire your passion to care for this little guy no matter what the problem. I just think it is more important to be fair, though I know the resistance you met with Petco was undesirable to say the least.

like i said before, anything is a possibility, im just trying to put the pieces together :p ill keep everyone updated as soon as a vet is found and lucky is diagnosed :)

Glad to help.

My vet is ARAV certified and he's great with my Veiled. Hope everything works out O.K.

I have to also agree with it not likely being MBD since his legs are quite straight. What Trace said about the spine being that way from incubation makes sense to me...not sure if that's the reason he can't used his legs though...but not saying its not the reason either.

Glad he will be getting proper care now though no matter what is going on with him! Keep us up to date with his progress!
