The problem with free range....

If that tree is a schefflera umbrella tree, i think it is toxic.

EDIT: Just noticed that is a common name that is used for multiple varieties of scheffleras. Let me see if I can find the scientific name.

I never said that I know my plants, I merely said those two look alike. The leaves are very similiar. However, I could not know for sure considering your plant has very few leaves.

Alright, this whole thread is starting to get really stupid. Jakedn, you really need to grow up and see that you live with other human beings that have different opinions/methods, and you need to realize that you aren't always going to be right! And the fact that the only thing you could comeback with in response to his picture (which looks fine to me) was about the placement of a bulb, that tells me that you are just looking to bash whatever you can, and insult other people, all of which is extremely immature.

Just my two cents :)

I accept when I am proven wrong, just as I have when he pointed out that I was wrong about the type of plant he is on. I am also not trying to bash anyone or anything, it seems to me your the one trying to bash me. I pointed out the bulb because his placement of it confuses me as it seems that he could easily put it in a less dangerous and more natural position. I never insulted anyone, I also don't think I was ever even rude.

In fact, you have insulted me just now by telling me that I need to grow up and then calling me immature.

That is a perfect example of exactly how a free range should be. It looks amazing Ryan, good job.

Thanks! I have 3 misting nozzles that run 15min 3x aday and 4 tube lights. 2x 48" reptisun 5 and two full spectrum. I also use 2x halogen flood for the heat lamps. I use two feeding cups on each end and have resources for each of the chams to use the space without causing any issues with each other.

What I do is try to mimic a small part of the chameleons environment so they will be comfortable and stay in the designated space.

Thats what I do , and why I do it. Readers can take it how they would like. :) Enjoy

You're confused that sometimes electrical outlets can't just pop out of mid-air where they would work better? And can I ask how I'm bashing you? All I was saying was that you were coming off kind of arrogant, at least that's how I read it, which means other people did too. I was trying to tell you so you could maybe be nicer when trying to tell people that they were wrong. And I never called you immature, I was saying that your actions were immature.

A tad bit touchy?

I never addressed either of you about having issues with your free ranges, so I have no idea why you jumped on the defense. Maybe you are feeling guilty?

I was simply posting that anyone free ranging needs to be aware of the issues I mentioned. I have zero issue with my chameleons wandering around my house that are housed in my free ranges. The reason is that I don't give them any reason to leave. They have what the need IN the free range, so why leave?

Honestly, I like that my cham roams around. He is part of the household with the rest of the pets that live here including my two cats...and yes I said he free ranges with my two cats. He's been free ranging for 12 months now. My cham isn't distressed, sick, stressed, or has dark colors..in fact he's beautiful healthy and happy. So honestly as far as I'm concerned I don't have anything to figure out. I don't think that every instance is the same nor is every cham and not everyone has to be characterized as an owner with poor husbandry just cause they don't adhere to the norm. Take a look at the pic of Triton taken tonight... in his free range..does he look sick or unhealthy??

Mine will litterly walk from my free range into living room and chill on my pants just because you dont have a bond with your chameleons dont mean you should tell people there husbandry skills are off sounds more like your chameleon either dont like you or it is lazy.

Who said I don't have a bond? Why is he lazy for not leaving his free range? Why would it mean they don't like me because they don't wander around the house? I think you might be missing some of these.

To be honest, that is the absolute best set up I have seen yet. I'm sure you put a lot of thought, time, and effort into it and it definitely shows.

Mine outletts are no where near my free range. I have to use extension cords and tack them down so they cannot be climbed on.

I have to agree with you Kevin

Following the same logic you use here, if I read what you said as bashing me, that means other people did too:rolleyes:.

I could really care less if you think I come off arrogant or act immaturely, I cannot control how some people will interpret my posts. It is not how they were intended or written, it is merely your interpretation of them that brought you to that assumption.

This was an issue in my first free range lol. I used squares of cardboard cut with a slit so the wires ran through the middle. The wires were to hang the lights and plants... If the cham climbed the cord he wouldn't be able to continue... Sorta like those domes you see on bird feeders to keep squirles from climbing up or down the post/wire and eating everything.
