Tip of tail not shedding

Can someone provide some advice on how to help this along? I noticed that the tip of his tail did not come off during his last shed. Is there anything that I can do to help it along?

Does it look like its cutting off circulation? If it hasnt been like that too long or even if it has, try putting some mineral oil on it, let it sit, maybe apply a few times. If it doesnt come off use a q tip to gently loosen it. You dont want to pull it off just gradually and easily rub it off.

Edit: If it is cutting off the circulation he will probably loose that bit of the tail. Ive never had problems with the tips coming off. Just apply some anti bacterial cream on it a few times a day if it does fall off. You want to watch and make sure that if it starts turning black and spreading to take him to a vet for amputation.

Awesome! I knew it would only take a couple of minutes to get the right answer on here.

Yeah, the easy way:D If it is stuck too bad though you may still have to apply the mineral oil even after a shower.

maybe. but a shower is less intruisive, and you dont have to try to apply a liquuid to a moving squirming chameleon with one hand. :p

I don't seem to have any mineral oil around the house. Could I use some Olive Oil?

Im not sure if you could or couldnt. Try to give him a shower or long warm misting if possible. If he is one to freak out while getting him out try the the long mist session. You can also apply the mineral oil/baby oil with a q tip so you dont have to hold him. If you have some neosporin or anit bacterial cream it may help loosen it up also. Whatever way is the least stressful would be the way I go first.

OK, I gave him a long mist down with warm water and sprayed his tail a couple of times. I don't think he's to happy but what can you do. I don't think the circulation has been cut of to the tail. He still uses it when crawling around the cage with the screen. I had thought that this might have made the rest of the tail come off but I guess I was wrong.

I have used both Olive Oil and Mineral Oil. They have both worked fine in helping the aid of my CWD to shed.

It is only the very tip of the tail so hopefully nothing decides to fall off. I really hope I don't need to take him to the vet. I have given them $3k since the beginning of last month for my dog that had a bad infection. If only I had taken him to the new vet to begin with. The old vet said it was just a cold, far from the truth, when I took him in. Luckily I have a couple of vets within a few miles of my house. A second opinion is some times just the best answer.

Unless retained shed is surrounding something that is growing, it's probably not a concern. It will most likely come off with the next shed if it doesn't get knocked off before. Unless it is constricting the tail, I would not consider it worth a vet visit.
