To the rescue

To help hydrate him, you can put him on a plant (if he'll cling to it that is) and put the plant with him on it in the shower, aim the shower head at the wall and turn it on warmish (say 75/80) so the spray hits the wall and bounces back onto him and his plant... it'll raise the humidity through the roof for him and give him tons to drink.

I hope this your little boy recovers quickly and lives with you for a long time!

Just seeing this guy breaks my heart. Thank you so much for saving him. Yep I would pay to get him out of the situation he is in and into a life he deserves as well. Thank you and bless you for helping him.

Thank you all those kind words of encouragment. When i called the guy to some info about the cham, The choice was easy on if we wanted him or not. (We had no choice) I really hope this guy will make a comeback. He is huge and the colors are amazing! It is clear and sunny outside today so he will get lots of sun thoughout the day. Thank you all again for all the nice words.

The shower mist is a good idea. After a long day in the sun we will try it. I know i love a nice shower after being in the sun all day long...lol

I think it's great that you rescued this poor guy. I live in Naples, so if you ever need anything, just let me know. Good luck in getting him back in shape!

Michelle

Michelle,
Do you ever go to the Calusa Herpetological Society meetings? The next meeting is on Dec 1 and we will be there.

Thank you all for the kind word of encouragement. We will do our best to get this guy healthy again. I have him outside today getting some natural sun that he needs. Im going to see if he will eat something here shortly.

I've never been - can you tell me what time and where it'll be and I'll try. I'm off that day, and would love to go - thanks for the info!

Poor baby :( Honestly physically he doesn't look too bad, I have seen and worked with worse. With some TLC he will be stunning he has a huge head lol

While he is outside I would just mist the heck out of him in long durations instead of a shower, this way you kill two birds with one stone ;)

Good luck with him keep us updated!

You can find more info on it at www.calusaherp.org They meet every month at the Nature Center here in Ft. Myers.

He really doesnt look too terribly bad. Just really skinny and malnourished. He has been outside most of the day today and he is just lapping up the water like its going out of style.

You have already improved his life by 100%
Just wait til you see him respond!
Are hornworms readily available to you?, I would add butters for fat and phoenix worms for calcium.
I know you want to get as much in to him as possible, but small does, after not getting proper food/water too much is just as hard on the system as nothing. You don't want to risk possible intestinal problems

Today this guy seems to be improving fairly quickly. He ate a few silk worms last night, a few today as well as some crix. He seems to have to get quite close to them before he is able to catch them. It seems his tongue only extends 8 or so inches.

He is outside again today soaking up the FL sunshine. He is still drinking lots of water every time I mist. He hides from the water until I stop spraying then goes right to drinking. Last night he was drinking right from the dripper.

He is more aware of his surroundings and keeping his eyes open now as well which is a huge improvement.

I am so smiling right now! Much better face than when I saw those first pictures :(

He will improve with leaps and bounds with the care you are giving him. I hope the sun keeps shining where you are for that boy to get outside daily :D

I'm pretty sure its a male

Does he have "tarsal spurs"? Those are little fleshy growths on the back feet that look a lot like heels sticking out behind the feet.

Maybe you could post a picture of the back feet?

It's not at all uncommon for their to be confusion on gender and if there are eggs, there's a different problem that needs to be addressed.

update

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to give you all an update on our rescued cham. (Dustin named him Lastleg) Lastleg is doing great! he is recovering from neglect and malnutrition very quickly. He is eating silkies and lots of crickets, drinking lots of water, and getting lots of needed Florida sunshine. He is putting weight and is starting to get a lot more active. I am very happy we got him. He is awesome and has great colors!

Danny

Keep up the good work!!!. We are fortunate to live in Florida!!! Post some pics soon so we can see the improvements.
