Too skinny?

Hi everyone:

I'm new to the forum, and just picked up a baby male veiled at a local reptile show today. He's 4 months old and looked very active and alert in the tank at the show. However, I did think he looked a bit skinny. Sorry, no photo right now as he's quite skittish being his first day in his new home so I'm trying to leave him alone for a few days. He did eat 10 1/4" crickets a couple of hours after we got home though.

Anyhow, you can see his ribs. Not just when he's moving or bending, but all the time. Is this normal or is he too skinny? If he's too skinny, what would be the best thing to fatten him up a bit? Waxworms?

Thanks.

I'm sure it's normal especially when you first get them because I don't think the pet stores/shows feed them as much as you would. I think they free range crickets in the cage and multiple chams share or which ever cham is the better predator will eat more than others.

When I picked up my male Veiled 2 weeks ago, he was pretty skinny. Now that he is under my care since I picked him up, he fattened up a little bit and I don't see much of the rib cage anymore.

Wax worms shouldn't be under a daily diet, but a few a week wouldn't hurt to start him off on fattening up :)

That is good that he is eating. Often times they might not eat right away when in a new environment. Feed him about15- 20 1/4 inch crickets a day and mix in some roaches, silkworms, phoenix worms or some other type of feeder.
