Hi all I took my veiled outside today in his enclosure it was 28C and he was opening his mouth after around 20-30 mins so I took him back in. Why was it to hot for him when his basking spot is ment to be 30C? He is a 9month old veiled.
You should give him the opportunity to move in and out of the sun on his own. The temperature is alot hotter in the sun. As always provide shade and water and he will love it outside.
They are not desert animals able to take high temps
Veilds NEED to be able to adjust their own temp
if they open their mouths and blanch out it's because they're overheating.
if you put them into the sunlight
make sure there is an area where they can also move into and get out of the sunlight.
They'll show you what they need all you have to do watch them.
When I brought my veiled outside and it was too hot he made a break for it and tried running away (seriously! he's feisty!) and only stopped when he got to shade of my shadow.
