i am doing a 3 hour car journey next week. and need to know what the best thing to keep my 1 year old yemen in so he will be safe during the journey.

It's really not a good idea to travel with them but if it absolutely necessary you can make a Travel cage. I had to do the same thing a few months ago so what I did was made sure he got as much sun light possible before the trip. I made a travel cage and when we were in the car I just put a dark towel over his cage so he could sleep. For the cage I just took a 5$ mesh laundry hamper and made a jungle gym/ support system out of dowel rods.
