Trioceros johnstoni bwindi

85F.... If thats the case, then I can just use Zoo Meds PowerSun Mercury Bulb? I'm using one now for a Panther(100wt), and the main highest point to bask is 85F(He likes it there). The ambient lower cage temp is 75, same as the house. So with the cages being 4x2x4, these Chams should be able to find a happy spot in the cage, with the lower ambient temps being 70F like the room, and they will still get the UVB(meter checked). I would be placeing the Mercury fixture in the back corner and still running 4ft twin light flourescents as well.

Thoughts???

The goal should be to provide a proper temperature gradient. So I would recommend setting the hottest point to about 85f, then check the UV and index levels and go from there.

I never technically use a basking "spot". IMO its better to offer many places to sit at different temps they prefer and adjust as needed

That would probably work, but I would try for a lower watt MV.

Ok, not oncall for a while and finally have a chance to get back to building, a question for the pro's...

The size I have finally settled for the Johnstoni is 32x24x48, are these imported guys and gals gonna be happy with that? I don't want them to feel confined... Was doing 4ft long, but wife talked me into smaller to gain two cages. Its on a 16ft rack...

For what its worth, I think it will be good. The trick is going to be getting dense foliage regardless of size and then the proper temp gradients while still providing the right amount of UVB.

As you saw, mine are about the same, just a bit taller.

Make sure to post some pics.

Biffle. My goodness these Bwindi chams are gorgeous. I think as a fellow Austinite, we will need to become better friends in the near future so I can come meet them once they're settled in with you!

In all seriousness, they are some really stunning chams :)

Yeah, felt some heat a while back to show some pics, so I have been taken pics as I go.:)

I don't really take pics, but it seems obligated here...

Its cool, only takes moments to stop and think to grab the camera. So if people are interested I will post stuff...

Not much to see at the moment, building the skeleton to prime(kids wanna help paint), then I will add the drains and such. Its not the cages I was working on, but I can't find a happy medium with any cage, so just slapping something together.(running outa time)...

Heres the starting point...

OMG! That thing's huge! Are you going to leave it where it is? Interesting build, can't wait to see it finished. How many Johnstonii are you getting?

WOW! That's awesome!!!!:D I will be using this as a base for my new set-up I will be building! So jealous lol! How did you get the drain to stick to your gorilla plastic? Did you use some sort of silicone?

Yes, the cage system is staying in the garage. When its done there will be lockable rollers on it to move it if need be, as well as roll them outside for sunshine. The garage is getting redone into a Cham room...(Probably take pics of that also if people wish)

The cost was so little, gonna build 2-3 more...

Recieving 2.2 Johnstoni-:)

The material is regular shower pan membrain and the drain screws together to seal. Its the type used to screw onto a fiberglass shower base.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone!:):):)

Very nice work SIR!!!!!!! Your new chams will be in a fantastic set up,YES KEEP THE PICTURES COMING please :)

Great work Lazard!!

I guess I will go ahead and share my build update as well.

You can see my pics earlier in this thread with the base cage, I was able to finish one of them today.

Here is the bottom, I have also ordered some 1/4" PVC Sheet to use to line the bottom, much the same as the DIY Cages.

With Door on,

On stand with casters so I can move it around, in and out of room, etc...

Possible Planting, no branches in it yet, and then with my daughter next to it to give size reference. SHe is 5'.

I still need to seal the bottom stand. Drainage will be a gutter along the front edge that will drain out into either 5gal buckets, or possible into a drain through the wall and outside.

I am building 4 of these.

In addition to the cages, I am also working on temp control for what has become my 'High Mountain Cham Room'...LOL

Bobby

Nice cages guys!!!

Mine will likely be just 24x24x48 LLLs or very simple built cages due to time constraints. And they will probably spend the entire summer outside, I don't expect it to get too hot. If need be they can be brought in.

So is anyone else getting the Rwenzori locality aside from me???
