Uhg. Please be ok

I just walked into my room to find Walker with his eyes closed. Gonna make an appointment ASAP. I just don't want something to be wrong with him... or come home from work/school to find him dead... He's not shedding, so there shouldn't be skin or anything in his eyes.

His basking temp is about 85 degrees F. He did open them when I disturbed him and he hasn't done it since. I'm still planning on taking him to a vet

Can you fill out the "how to ask for help" form? Someone link it please? (running around at the moment and barely functional as is XD) If you can fill it out we may be able to give you some emergency care that may help perk him up in the mean time ^^

:Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - Veield male chameleon, around two or three months old. I've had him for about three weeks
  • Handling - I have only handled him once.
  • Feeding - He gets 10-15 crickets a day. Calcium w/o d3 every feeding, with d3 twice a month, and will get vitamins sometimes. Crickets are gutloaded with grapes, apples, sometimes Fluker's brand cricket food. He also gets mealworms here and there because they were a regular thing in his diet before I got him. I didn't want to deprive him of them.
  • Supplements - I have ZooMed ReptiCalicum w/o d3, Aqua Culture calcium with d3, and ZooMed Reptivite reptile vitamins.
  • Watering - I have an automatic misting system. His cage gets misted about 5 times a day to keep up humidity. I see him drink each time I mist.
  • Fecal Description - Firm, the urate is white like it should be. It hasn't been tested for parasites. It should be when I take him to the vet on Monday.
  • History - none

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Screen cage that has a shower curtain wrapped around it to keep humidity in. His cage is 16X16X30 until his next one is built. (The shower curtain was aired out for a few days before being put on the cage.
  • Lighting - He has a ZooMed duo dome light. He has a 60W daylight blue reptile bulb and a 5.0 UVB 13W Reptisun bulb. His lights come on at 9:30 and shuts off at 9:30. But he's awake before his light comes on.
  • Temperature - His basking spot is around 85 degrees F, and the rest of his cage is around 70, lower than 70 near the bottom of the cage.
  • Humidity - The humidity can range from 40 degrees to 85 degrees. After the misting happens, the humidity jumps. It's easier to control with the help of the shower curtain, but sometimes it gets a little high.
  • Plants - So far I only have fake plants, but I'm going to be getting real plants soon. Any suggestions on what kinds?
  • Placement - The cage is in my room near the door. From the hours of 12-6:30 during weekdays he's left alone but is checked on here and there during those hours. He will be moved away from the door once his new cage is built. He's about two feet off of the ground, and I know that he should be higher.
  • Location - Wisconsin

Current Problem - The other day my cham climbed to the top of his cage and hung under his light for a long time. Ever since then he's seemed kind of different. I'm not too sure how to describe it. But on that day that he was hanging directly under his light, he was just sitting on this one branch, and when it came to 9:00, he wasn't getting ready for bed like he normally would, so I picked him up and he allowed me to do so. He sat on my hand a bit before crawling to his bedtime spot. Yesterday, I walked into my room to find him with his eye shut, but when I looked at him again, he opened it. Also, as I was typing this up, he did it again.
Also, for his vet appointment, I'll need a poop sample, and he doesn't always poop every day with isn't great, but how would I "preserve" his poop for the vet trip?

I just put the fecal sample in a ziplock baggy. Keep an eye out for the dropping and bag it when you see it.

How often so you feed mealworms? If he isnt pooping everyday he could be having trouble digesting them. Switch to superworms in the furture as a mealworm alternative treat. Supers are easier to digest for chams.

He only gets them like 2 times a week. When I first got him, he pooped every day up until this week basically. I cannot, for the life of me, find any superworms small enough for him.

Maybe 30 seconds or longer. I think he hasn't been pooping as much because he hasn't been eating as much as normal. I just came home from work and he's shedding. That explains some of his problems. He may have been hanging under the light to try and dry himself out to shed????

You should increase your mistings to 2 minutes+, in my opinion it's really abnormal for a chameleon to drink EVERY time you mist especially if you are misting 5 times a day, which means he is not getting enough water in one sitting. I have a jackson's, they are heavy drinkers, she doesn't even drink really more than twice a day from what I see.

I'm pretty sure I mist longer than the 30 seconds that I said. I have a misting system, but when I home I use it to spray the cage myself. I sit there at saturate the leaves for him. I don't stop spraying until I see him drink. Every time I mist, he drinks like he's never seen water before, so I'll spot spray here and there when I think he looks thirsty.

Then I would make sure to make sure to time (use the automatic mister for this) an 6-8 minutes misting once a day. That will help with eye cleaning. Other than that yeah I definitely agree with you in seeing the vet, just to check everything out.

Thank you. I'll do that for sure!
I rather go to the vet and be told it's nothing opposed to not going and him actually being sick and dying.

I'm away for the weekend and my mom sent me this. received_1628830303801265.jpeg
He doesn't look too happy, but my mom got him to eat. Poor boy has all that crap on his face. He'll probably be moody once I'm home.
