Undigested Fecile & Possible Eye Infection

Hey guys and gals,

I just got this chameleon a few days ago from a member and it was sent with a few problems.

1. I think her eyes might be infected. Its sunken in and it looks like theres a plastic clear film covering the eye ball. They look sunken in as well.

2. She pooped yesterday and I barely noticed today that it looked half digested. while I was cleaning i saw that there were cricket wings, legs and what looked like to be a whole body intact. Not really any urine in there either. I cant take any pictures cause I accidentally swept it away before I even thought about taking pictures.

3. Her toe nails looks like theyre worn all the way down to her toe. Will it grow back? I feel bad for her cause she cant really climb on the screen and sometimes it looks like she has a hard time climbing.

I really want to keep her but if her eye doesnt get better then Im going to have to send her back. Shes is eating fine, maybe 5 crickets a day. I dust them with calcium with VIT-D. Mist her 3 times a day (heavily)

Please guys if you can help that would be great. I take her cage outside from morning to evening. She is not set up in her cage yet and is in a quarantine tank right now. Im guess she is a 6 month old ambanja.

Ill take pictures tomorrow cause shes sleeping right now. please help

I also have a humidifier on during the day that shes not outside.

and there is a hygrometer that says it goes up to 60% then turns off.

could be several problems. I would first start checking the basking temperature and the light you are using.

Check your Inbox.

I was hoping for a more brighter answer! lol pm'ed replied.

I hope I can cure her over the weekend :(

Shes a real beauty and would be a perfect mate for my purple bar male

Sorry to disappoint :D
Nope. I didn't get the PM. You sure you send it to the right person? :)
If you got her already in that condition, i would suggest you return her to the breeder.
But, i would check if you are providing enough heat and proper lighting.

Can you post some pictures of the chameleon please?

Do you know what brand and type (spiral, compact, long linear tube) UVB light was being used? Any information about supplementation, temperature, etc. would be helpful too.

What temperature has the basking area been at since you got the chameleon? The lack of proper digestion could have something to do with that or from the stress of the move...but there could be other reasons too.

If there aren't some simple things to correct to solve the problems, then you will need to get the chameleon to a vet.

Just my luck. She is starting to shed.

I don't want to take her out to take pictures, I think it will add
ore stress to her.

Sounds dehydrated

Insufficent thermoregulation likely, check sufficient basking temp

If they are just worn down they should grow back. What was abrasive in her last enviroment to wear them so much? Sounds odd for an aborial lizard. It suggest odd habits (lots of time on the ground/digging) ?

As advised, A vet checkup will answer your questions. QWhy remove it to take pictures?

Sounds dehydrated

Her eye is getting a little bit better. Ive been soaking her with warm water for the past 2 days now.

I just got a temp gauge so ill monitor it tomorrow but im pretty sure it stays around 80-85 degrees in the room. She pooped again and it seems like its fully digested now. The urine was a little on the orange side though.

I have no idea...

Ill take pictures tomorrow. Ive been working all day and didnt get a chance to take some today. Shes sleeping now so I dont want to disturb her.

Dont know if you can really see her eye in these pictures.

It looks like theres a clear film thats covering it. It doesnt look like any other chameleon eye that ive seen. Her other eye is fine but not the one pictured.

When I went to go check up on her this morning she had that eye closed.

doesnt

in the meantime, I recommend making an appointment with Dr Stein.

YIKES! beverly hills? sounds expensive already!

Ill make an appointment tomorrow morning.

I have an exo-terra solar glo bulb 160w with a Exo Terra Hagen Glow Light Clamp Lamp.

This morning she was awake with her eye closed. I showered her with warm water. I checked her before bed time and her eyes were sunken in. I keep the whole room humidified all day. Its around 60-70% throughout the day.

Henry, try calling now.
I'll pick it up. It's weird.. I have no ring or no miscall whatsoever.

no problem. I thought it would be faster via the phone knowing the condition she is in.
Please update with Dr. Stein's diagnosis.
It will be helpful to know here what's going on.

I just got back from the Vets office and Dr Stein said that she had an irritation. with the undigested food, he said that shit might be throwing it up. He said to feed her smaller crickets and worms.

He gave me some antibiotics to help the eye infection. got to start treating that eye.

I'll be interested to hear how his nails are doing.

My chameleon similarly has small claws, and they appear "worn". I've just recently given him a much larger enclosure to play in, and I'm hoping he'll spend less time pawing at the screen, and the claws will eventually grow back in.
