Update from Vet on Bowser

So my boy Bowser has been at the Vet since June 17th due to an eye infection/ me having vacations already planned. The vet just emailed me an update stating most of the initial infection has gone down but they found a small firm nodule at the front of his eye that he has been itching at for a while now. They are having to put him under slight anesthetic to make him easier to handle so they can remove this nodule before it causes another infection. I have still not figured out how his eye got infected in the first place. I originally took him in for itching his eyes on branches, they did a wash of one eye (the one that ended up infected literally the day after this happened). Does anyone have any clue how a wash of an eye could cause an infection? How could the vet not notice a nodule until literally the day before im supposed to return to pick him up? I'm really quite frustrated over these 2 supposed exotic reptile vets, considering his eye had no apparent issue the first vet visit and they just did a wash to see if that helped and all they did was infect his eye...

The wash of the eye probably didn't cause the infection. It was more likely that the infection was there but mild, and the wash didn't completely get rid of it, and he was scratching it more until you were able to see the infection. And the infection was possibly concealing whatever this nodule is, which might be pus. I know that chameleon pus is somewhat solid, and it could have been produced by the infection and didn't drain on its own.

Thanks for the response! Makes me feel better that the vets didnt make him sick then but now it gets me wondering what went wrong in my husbandry that got his eye infected =( my poor guy.

The vet just let me know that they were able to remove the nodule this afternoon but he was too groggy still so they want to hold him one last night to keep an eye on him, saying I can pick him up tomorrow evening and they will then give me discharge instructions.

8-21-15 another vet update

The vet has changed his antibiotics to another, and has emailed pictures of his eyes to other vets to get help on how to proceed. They will be calling me next week with a game plan. They are thinking they will have to go back into his eye again and pull out more stuff, and they are worried he already has vision loss in his infected eye so lets hope he pulls through with both of his eyes still unsure emoticon

I highly recommend you find another vet.

Thanks much for the link, I know for a fact Shirley Russman (my closest vet) either doesnt see reptiles anymore or has retired or something because she was the first vet I tried to get and the one at Petroglyphs has been speaking with my vet, if things do not improve by next week I will drive as far as I need to in order to get my boy help. I tried to stay local because I know he hates traveling but in the end he will have to put up with it if it gets him better. Im saving that link, thank you very much.
