Hello, I just recently got a juvenile veiled chameleon. Today I started noticing that he was keeping his mouth open a little more. Then later today would he started to open is mouth and make a popping sound. My humidity and temperature are good, I did use a fogger for the first two days I had him until I did a little more reading about URIs. If someone who has had some experience with this before could give me some advice on what you think this is and what I need to do from here that would be perfect.

Not yet, I wanted to make sure I needed one before I took him in. Like I said I am new so I am not completely sure what natural chameleon behavior is.

Thanks for the reply.

When a chameleons mouth is open it is usually a sign that he/she is over heated...now when they do that with a poping sound it may be more serious than over heating. How close to him heat source is he when he does this?

He has been doing it all over the cage. He started on his basking vine but kept doing it when he was walking around lower down. He has also been a darker green color since I started noticing.

Alright, I will do that tomorrow or Monday hopefully. Thank you for the input and I will try to monitor him closely to look for any other signs.

I was just remembering that to check if the horses at my barn have mucus in their throats we have to listen to a clicking sound through their nose. The clicking is the sound of the mucus on their throats blocking their airway. I'm not sure if it is the same thing for chameleons but mucus in their throat is not good. Defiantly get him in the vet by Monday!

Thank you, Yea I actually just got something scheduled for tomorrow. Not trying to make my little guy suffer for too long before I get him some help.

Mine did the same thing and he's perfectly fine now. What I did was boil hot water and placed a tea spoon of Vicks or two and let it boil then I put my Cham on the plant and the pot under it and let him breathe in the steam. This cured it
