Vegan.

if we don't eat the animals the animals will eat us haven't any of you guys seen jurassic park or that crocidile movie

I think what you are experiencing is paranoia combined with the munchies which I believe is the result of some other herbal substances you often partake in:D:rolleyes::D:p

It's really bad when the stores and shops don't know the difference between vegetarian and vegan! Order a bowl of vegan soup, it's not vegan. I was with a friend when she happened to come across one of these shop/cafe/places. She was not happy about it, and the people were just really, really confused.

Everyone can still get meat without hormones and antibiotics in them. Free range animals fed on healthy natural food is around. You just have to look a little harder and ask around a bit. Around here, there is a great little free-range farm (which is halal and can be kosher when requested) and I've been told the meat is 10X better than any ordinary grocery store meat. They advertise on craigslist and they have a small website.

Some people do indeed "slow" down when they stop eating meat, but it's almost always because they either rushed into it too fast for their bodies, or they aren't eating healthy foods anyways (or both!) Anemia especially is a result from the poor diet that can cause some serious fatigue.

You know what is neat? There are all sorts of plants around your neighborhoods that you can eat (and taste good too!) I wouldn't recommend eating them if you're in a big nasty city though. I really started to get interested in the edible plants when I got my tortoise and guinea pigs. We share food :)

It's people like you that irritate me the most. Honestly, if you have nothing good to say or helpful/beneficial you should keep it to yourself. I don't appreciate you talking about killing animals to satisfy yourself. You are a loud mouthed imbasile that seems to think that you need to speak about everything just to irritate people... I created this thread to get help and more information on me becoming a vegan. If you have no beneficial information please, keep to yourself and don't post on my thread. I don't need your loud mouth on an informative thread...

I eat meat..... and veggies... I feel the same when I eat either. I don't feel bad because the carrots died to become part of my salad or the beef that became my burger. I do think our farming practices are geared more for the dollar than the healthy product.
If you think because you don't eat animals you are not killing them your crazy.
Every time you flip a light switch on your guilty of killing animals and contributing to the mass extinction of them. Even when you eat veggies your killing animals.
One thing has stayed the same for hundreds of millions of years..... life on this planet feeds on life..

couldn't agree more and well said

This is what you're worked up about? Haha. Well, it's a chameleon based forum... Chams eat bug "meat". I tried being vegetarian for about 6 months. I don't remember the experience much.

Don't let small things/people bug you so much. Bug, lol.

Too true.
For the record, I am a meatatarian. I think there is room on this planet for all God's creatures....at my house it's right beside the mashed potatoes!!! :D

Don't let anybody think for you. If you chose to try Vegan then do so.

I know in the beginning my daughter did not tell anyone except me. It is easy to make mistakes in the beginning. She did not want to hear about it from others because she was trying.

It is hard until you get the hang of it, and the stigma as you can see here- is more difficult when people are right in your face.

Everyone knew she was a Veggie before So the changes she made publicly were not as noticeable, since she was already conscious of what she could and could not eat. Eventually the ones close to her figured it out and the others well who cares.

It took my daughter about 8 months to completely switch over. The diet took about a month. The lifestyle was longer. She did not throw out everything "non" vegan since that would be wasting almost everything she owned. As she ran out of Personal items, or the clothes worn out she bought vegan friendly then. After she had completely changed over- thats when she would willingly say she was vegan. At that point there was also no ammunition to use against her because everything not just the diet was vegan

Keep supportive people around you that understand what you are trying to do is hard and not well respected (because people do not understand)

Learn to ignore the others. Good Luck with your choice whichever you decide to do

Linda, is there anything specific that is considered vegan clothing/items, besides leather (and maybe wool)? Wouldn't anything you own that's cotton or man-made fiber be considered vegan or am I wrong?

Most clothes are pre softened w animal based softener before sold.

Few other items most don't know contain animals. grocery plastic bags, fireworks, fuel, rubber "tires cars" ect.. . Shampoos and most soaps, and glue are a few.

Wow, ok, I see how that limits your options for clothing. Must be tough finding nice things for events that look good and meet vegan requirements, in particular.

How do you get around the fuel thing? Or tires?

Sorry for the questions, this is interesting!

There are many vegan friendly alternatives
Rice bags/paper/reusable
Fireworks not needed
Tires- http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/20/automobiles/20TIRE.html?pagewanted=all
Personal care items- http://www.lushusa.com/shop
glue-Almost all modern cheap white glues are resin based, meaning they are made of synthetic polymers -plastics.
Manufacturers are aware of the need to change and some are trying

there is always an alternative, I was just stating that it is a lot less obvious then people think. Like ok this shirt wasn't shaved off a sheep so its good. No that is not the case. Most people don't have a clue, like me but Im learning. Im not vegan either by the way but I do respect everything.

Im in the shower now reading every label and everything I eat. That food inc. movie is good, but it was to late for me to finish. I think I might be growing my own food after watching that.

yeah gives you a new outlook!
Like I said I am not Vegan nor Veggie. I have just learned how to live with one.
When she first told me my Gut reaction was OMG she is going to starve, get sick and waste away.
Then my brain kicked in and I spent hours researching. It is not that hard feeding her or shopping for her now. She understands I am not a vegan and respects that as I respect her lifestyle.

It is also easier for me since she is away at college and is only home short intervals 3 months the most-summer.

He was stating his opinion as you were stating yours. You then started insulting him for his opinion, that is very rude and you could have asked NICELY for him to leave the thread, instead of calling him an imbasile, I'm sorry, but that's not going to do anything except make other people angry as he apparently was doing to you.

You wanna or need to be veggie, vegan, or meatosaurus – it’s free agency.

My hubby is near veggie – bacon is difficult to ignore though. Me, I like my steaks rare but since my doctor insist I cut my cholesterol I choose my meat carefully. I support a local organic farmer/rancher.

No...he was being a jerk, and it was not warranted. The OP just called a spade a spade!
