Veiled born without toes.

Hey guys,

I've been meaning to share this with you all. At the pet store that I work at, we have a male chameleon that has been there for about two and a half years now. I honestly did not notice this until a costumer pointed it out, but he has no toes on his front right foot (hand?) I thought that maybe he had some sort of accident, but there is no scarring or anything. They just are not there. I asked the girl that has worked there since the store opened, and she said that he arrived like that when he was a baby. I just thought that some of you might find this interesting :)

Its likely he lost them in a bad shed.
If they dont shed well around their toes and spikes, it can cut the circulation off to the toe/spike, and it will fall off.
Thats my understanding anyways.
Ive never heard of them loosing ALL of there toes though, poor guy.

When I read that something like that could happen, my first thought went to him. I didn't really get a good picture of his hand because he was moving around a lot and was determined to climb on top of my head, but I will get another pic of it tonight so you can see if it looks like a shedding issue.

He is a huge sweetheart though, and climbs around well enough, I don't think he really notices :)

my veiled looks like that somtimes. the lady i got him from claimed it was from his toenails being riped out, some have started to come back and others havnt

I dont have any experience with them losing toes, but I hear it doesnt slow them down much.

Thats possible too.
He may have ripped them out on screen material.

I do have to be cautious when he starts to climb on my arm where there is no shirt because he slips sometimes, but other than that it really doesn't slow him down.

Wouldn't it leave some sort of scar or something where it was ripped out from the screening? I'm just curious.
