Veiled Cham having surgery this Wednesday...

Excellent stuff, you sound like just the sort of new person I like to see :D You forgot to confirm whether or not Leonard is named after the character in 'The Big Bang Theory' comedy tv show though.........That means I have to actually ask now - was I right?

Hi @DavidBuchan, haha, my husband and I LOVE 'The Big Bang Theory' - but Leonard came to us pre-named. :)

We just got back from the vet. She used a specialized syringe needle (it has a rounded tip, normally is used for feeding tiny birds!) to flush out Leonard's eye with saline. He hid his eye and squirmed a little, but didn't otherwise object much. I love our vet! She fit us in between 2 office visits, so didn't charge us an office fee, only the $15 for the eye flush. She told us to wait 2-3 weeks, and if the swelling still hasn't resolved in the tear duct, she'll perform a second small operation to clean out any debris that might be there.

The good news is that while she was flushing, some of the liquid was definitely draining down into Leonard's mouth - so any possible obstruction is not complete.

Chameleons are so fortunate to have people like y'all out there....so glad Leonard is doing good......thank you from our veiled Picasso.

I'm so glad Leonard is doing better! Hopefully the swelling will improve since getting it flushed. He's a very lucky boy to have ended up with your family as fosters! He looks like such a sweetheart! It's also a wonderful learning opportunity for your boys! I looked through your blogs and have to say I love your artwork and reading about your family. What a neat blog! Welcome to the forum! Have you thought about keeping Leonard?

Hi @MollyT - Thank you for your kind words. :)
Leonard is a "permanent foster placement" which means that he still "belongs" to the rescue organization (so they can still use him in educational events e.g.), BUT he will live with us for the rest of his (hopefully long) life. :)
He is a sweetie. I've never seen a Veiled Chameleon that isn't hand-shy - but Leonard seems to like to be handled, he doesn't get stressed. Good thing, cuz I have to hand-feed him every day...
