Veiled Chameleon Came in Today - Advice

I ordered a 3 month old veiled from FLChams, he came in today and is a lot smaller than I was expecting, he looks more like 6-8 weeks tops. I got a different light bulb with a lower wattage to get the temps lower to about 80-82.

He was bright green and asleep when he came in, I opened the tub and he crawled right into my enclosure. I already had it misted and sitting at 60% humidity.

After about a minute he crawled to the back and turned almost black, and sat there for a few hours. I went to bed (I work overnights) and when I got up he was moving around, but still black.

He didnt eat a single crickett today so I let a few free range on the leaf in front of him and he didnt eat. I didnt see him drink at all today either, but I was asleep most of the day. No poop yet to check out for dehydration.

He is sleeping now, bright green almost glowing it looks like.

I am feeding him 1/4" crix right now, is that small enough? They're about the size of his head.

Any advice on what I can do to ensure his health, I wasn't expecting such a young cham.

new cham syndrom! just relax my friend :p let him get settled in. it may take a few days but he will adjust fine as long as your husbandry is up to par.

note: make sure you take all crix out at night.

Yeah I took them all out that he didn't eat, it took me a while to find them all. I will just relax and see how he does over the next few days.

I hope he eats tomorrow!

I will definitely try and avoid that. That would be terrible and i would now have to avenge my cham

dont take the crickets out just put a piece of orange in the cage and change often that way he can eat when your not around and dont worry about chirps as the crickets are too young. also this saves you time and then if you still feel like taking them out you could just leave the orange slice or other veggie in there in case you missed one i do this and feed about 20 crickets every day but every third day i feed nothing and let him hunt what is left it makes the crickets a little easier to find for him since he is in a cage that is on the big side. your choice but this way you know that even if you miss one that it is gonna want the fruit over him

So the only issue I am running into is humidity, when I mist and run my humidifier, I can get it up to 65% humidity, but within an hour its back down to 45% and stay there until I mist again or run my fogger. Any advice?

I really just think that is AZ for you. I would run a dripper so he can drink whenever he wants but when the relative humidity is 2 and your running the AC I think you do what you can...maybe misting every 2 hrs etc using a humidifier. But you still need to let things dry out so you don't get mold and bacteria. I think that in AZ you have to be happy with a little less humidity. Do you have two sides rapped with plastic? That could help. I also think a Mistking is a must for AZ.

i have heard that you can put two pieces of shower curtain on each side of his enclosure to keep the humidity up im about to take a trip to target for that soon :p

So day 2, he's still all black all day, but I saw him drink water today at least. I had 10 crix in his cup, there were only 2 left when I checked again at 4pm.

Why is he staying black all day? He is active, moves around a good amount, and seems healthy, but he also seems pissed off or stressed.

I setup the "little dripper" today and he seemed to like it, he was drinking right where it splashed on the leave.

I stop misting/humidifier/dripper at least 2-3 hours before I shut his lights off to ensure it's all dried out.

I am thinking of blocking off one side, the side where the A/C hits. I have been keeping 50% humidity consistently, getting it up to 70-80% with misting.

give him a few days he might still be stressed from the trip he will calm down in a few days. were do you live at and is it real noisy cause that might also stress him out.

I work overnight so I sleep during the day, so it's silent most of the day until I wake up around 4pm. His cage is in my living room, it's sort of around a corner to block the light from my TV.

I am going to just keep an eye on him and see how he is in a few days, thanks.

but then again he might just be blending in with his environment. my baby veiled i noticed when he was on hit branches that were dark he turn almost black when he was climbing around on the screen mesh he would turn dark grey ish and when he was in his plants he was turning green so he also just might be blending in with what ever he is on for now. post a pic so we can see his set up
