veiled chameleon

hello, i got my baby Shrek (i know ...) 2 weeks ago, i don't know exactly how old is HE, but i think he is like 3-4 months old, maybe more (he's like 10-12 cm long, without the tail).
the first week or so i kept him in a small aquarium (i was waiting for the big one from the store), he was all green and nice, he seemed to have no problem with that (even though i know is not good for him). but then the store told me they don't have that model, so i couldn't find anywhere a terrarium, a custom one, that could fit in the place i wanted, so i thought, why put a terrarium in a .... terrarium ?! (the place is 55L x 30l and 100h)
my question is (the first one)
could i keep him in a place like this ? (of course, this is a job done in 20 minutes ... i will make frames for the mesh ... and i'm thinking maybe i will keep the mesh only for the bottom part and up i will make a frame and some glass, to see him better)
the temp inside (without a heating bulb) is 25-30, constantly and the humidity (without misting) si somewhere to 50-60%

- do i need a heating bulb if i have 25-30 C ?
- my UVB is this one (http://www.maxi-pet.ro/detalji_proi...rra-bec-pentru-terariu-repti-glo-5-0-26w.aspx) do i need a better one ? and how close to him should i keep it ?

i will post a series of pictures with the place and him to give me an advice if he looks healthy or not, and an idea about the place

i'm sorry about the long post, i'm sorry if it's in the wrong place, i'm sorry if i misspelled something and i'm sorry that i'm sorry.

this is him (the 6th photo is the only time i've seen him like that ... dunno why he was scared or angry ... it was the first time i gave him dubia, maybe that was the reason)

one last thing ... yesterday i got him out for the first time (i read that sun is better for him that the UVB light ... makes sense), and whe i got home, i wanted to give him a shower to be sure he wasn't getting dehydrated. he was enjoying it, he even opened his mouth 3-4 times (i read that this means he was drinking), but after, something very strange happened, that got me really scared ... his eye turned kinda blueish, popping out like a balloon, and he was scratching it on my hand first, and then, on that pole he is standing on (but then i read that is normal, they are trying to get out the exces of water, or something like that)

He will escape as constructed , staple every inch or so on the mesh ,and sew up the seam with a strong string, to keep the lizard in. Your feeders most crickets and all worms will escape through that mesh. It may suffice temporarily but be prepared to have some bugs running around your house.

thanks for the reply!
i only feed him bugs and worms that i put in a small box, they can't escape.
and at night, i put him to sleep in the aquarium, so i won't have trouble with him during the night.
these days i'm gonna make frames, so i won't have those 'stitches' on, and won't have any spaces left.
is there any solution that i can spray on the wood so it won't swollen when i mist ?

I was actually thinking you had a girl when I first saw the pictures! I tend not to comment on it though as I was wrong once and felt like a total idiot but if that was my lizard, I would assume a girl for now. The cage looks fine but maybe tighten the front up a bit where the 2 screens meet. I have a very similar situation with one of my custom cages and he escaped once, I knew he would I had a wide open hole (I found him climbing a lamp post). The problem with a hole like that would be with the crickets!!! That sucks because although you can hand feed I personally think its good for them to have crickets in the cage often because it seems to me like it hones their senses and they can crawl around and do some hunting. Hopefully some one with more experience chimes in and can verify the sex for you. If it is a female please dont fret because female veilds are awesome!

yes, now it's my baby and i won't hate him/her for that, but it's a bit dissapointing, cuz they are more colorful and the females are more sensible.
about the cage, today is the last day, tomorrow i will have the door done.
thank you for answers

Are you going to use a misting system or mist yourself? I mist by hand for now and try really hard to avoid the wood and haven't had any problems since I built the cage.

somebody posted that HE might actually be a SHE and asked me to post pics of his back legs (before the site error, and i think the messages got deleted somehow)

Yeah thats a She :D still very beautiful !
Btw I could propose you make yourself a screen door. I made a similar enclosure about a month ago. You could take a look here :

I just posted it. If you want some help or instructions, pm me I'll do my best.

Check out the Reptibreeze pre-fabricated screen cages (you just screw them together), they are inexpensive and durable. i have been raising my guy in an 18 x 18 x 36 and it works out great for him. i think they are going for about 63$ on amazon right now!

the cage is almost done, i am really curious if is a male or female ...
50% say male, 50% say female ... really confused

does the cham have little bumps on the back of its rear feet, im told that means its a male if it does have them, mine does.

look at the picture i attached of my guy climbing his cage screen, see the bumps on his back feet!

If there are little bumps or "spurs" on the back feet it's a male, if not it's a female. Hope that helps! Good luck with the little guy/girl!

Sorry, not trying to confuse you! I've had both males and female veild's, and if you see a bump it's a boy. Because he's still young they probably aren't fully developed so it can be confusing, especially if it's your first Cham.
