Hi i recently got a veiled chameleon and was wondering why he opens his mouth when he is basking could it be ri? His humidity is at 60-70% his basking spot is 85

How far from the light is he and how is is coloring. is he dark? Also the humidity is a little too high it should be closer to 50% it could be that he is hot or it could be an RI. It could also be stress does his breathing look labored or heavy? how long have you had him?

my boy Goliath when he was little he is now triple this size and very healthy.

Could be if he's too hot? Haven't owned a veiled but I've heard it could sometimes be caused by too much heat for him. Just a guess.

Hi i got him 3 days ago he is pretty active and eats his color is normally green but when he basks his color is brown. its not a heavy breathing he just opens his mouth

Yes chameleons tend to turn brown/darker colors when in their basking spot, hence darker colors absorb more heat. For example if people tell you don't wear dark clothes when it's hot and sunny out due to the fact you will get much hotter rather than wearing lighter colored clothes

Yes, usually they can turn lighter colors to cool down, or sometimes this is what my cham does he turns lighter colors as if he's excited when he's about to drink water LOL.

Did you get him from a pet store? if that is the case I would take him to a vet just to be sure it isn't an RI. I got my first veiled from PetSmart and he had an RI as well as the beginning stages of MBD and I was able to stop it before it got bad but after that I learned never buy from a pet store always get from a reputable breeder.

I would atleast recommend you to check and see if it's a URI, or could be a little too hot for him. Some people have said they do it just cause, I'm not too sure.

Ok i think i got it. Today his basking spot was to cold so i moved it up higher and now he opens his mouth.

The basking temp seems fine my stays around 85-90 so I don't think its because he is too hot.
