veiled vs panther

I am planning on getting a chameleon can someone tell me what the difference is between a panther and a veiled other than their price

Why not something different?

Well there's not too much of a difference. Of course there is the price. Some male veileds are typically more agressive as they get older but it just depends on the chameleon.

variety of colors the main difference. Im not sure if all vieleds, like the one I have, are all nervous about being held, so that may be another.

um.. Pretty much everything. Color, size, shape.. Their is a Search button near the top of the screen. Use that to help you out.

lots of things are diffrent veileds tend to be more aggressive veileds also have a high crest on thier heads. thiers diffrent care for veiled and panthers (and for any other chameleon for that matter) im not experienced with them. thiers defently alot more. but veileds are more beginer iv bn told. try reading up thiers plenty on both popular types of chameleons. make sure your ready before you purchase them. they are alot of work and money!!

good luck:)

I'd also agree with mbondy. Those are just the two popular ones. You could also do more research and possibly find something that you like better. Welcome to the chameleon world

Beyond the difference of appearance...

Young veileds and panthers require a basking temp of around 80-85 depending on age as a youth. Both also require regular mistings for about 3-4 times for a few minutes daily to keep your cham well hydrated.

Both require a 5.0 tube UVB and basking light, wattage dependent on the room temperature. Supplement schedule is the same as well and feeding is also generally the same.

There really isn't a huge difference in these two species.

Also when considering to buy a cham, choose a cham that you can care for correctly and not one that is only popular. Definitely do some reading and kudos to you for searching about the chams you are interested in!!

they are both siad to be pretty hardy. but i personally like panthers, they just seem to be more docile. and you cant beat the color!

Do some researh. Float around the forums for a bit before getting anything. You will find the one cham that you fall in love with. Beginer or not get the one you want. The peeps here will guide you along. IMO I would get the cage and all the items you need for that first, get it set up, move to get all the other things you will need including the cham. Good luck.

Take a look at the Gallery. There are an abundant amount of pics to look through. Maybe you will see something there. :D

your the first person who said "beginer or not get the one you want" and i agree with that satement 110% because if your ganna get an animal thats a challenge to take care of you better get the kind your really ganna enjoy raiseing. for example i complete dislike meller's chameleons thier for getting a meller's cham would make me less like to provide proper care and keep up on maintness. and to anyone wanting to get a chameleon make sure your ganna fit for a chameleon thier like toddlers. and some breeders are harder than others so just make sure you reasearch!!!:D

There are some more uncommon chams that are quite hardy if you get them as a CB. There are some lovely montane species that prove to be very hardy and just require more water.

HOW DARE YOU!!!!:p MELLERS ARE WHERE ITS AT:cool: :p

IMHO :)....every single cham. most common or the very rareist is unique and beautiful. no matter what you get he or she will be wonderful and steal your heart.

They require lots of attention

I really dont think that theres one that easier to care for, they all require lots of attention and monitoring. You really have to become a comminted pet owner to take care of one regardless of species. Remember when decideing to make sure you have someone capable of caring for them when you go on vacation or work. Good luck, I wish you the best of luck !

Seriously... I spent like 2-3 months just reading everything about a panther cham I could before I got mine and there were a few things I still had to learn but I could have just as easily done the same thing for any other species the colors are what sold me call me shallow if you want. Also what in the world is there not to love about a miniature triceratops that can climb trees and shoot things with it's tongue? I rest my case.

thanks for all the help i am probably going to look at a panther cham and Helios the colors are what got me to on the panther cham

Well, you might want to consider this:

WHICH SPECIES IS THE KING OF ALL CHAMELEONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's how I think it would go down. Veiled versus Panther (remember these animals weigh the same):

Round one, the chameleons see each other.

Round two, they recgognize absolutely nothing that needs to be immediately engaged in combat and/or mated with.

Round three, they decide that neither can eat one another.

Round four, they go in opposite directions, occasionally looking backwards to see what the other one is doing.

Round five, they both decide "AW YOU KNOW WHAT? THAT MOFO IS LOOKING AT ME BACKWARDS!" and charge one another.

Round six, they both go airborne a few feet before clashing. The Panther does a front flip and the Veiled rotates so that it is flying through the air upside-down with its claws up.

Round seven, everything goes into slow motion. A cricket chirps.

Round eight, right when the Veiled passes under the Panther, they simultaneously tongue shoot.

Round nine, to be continued...

HAHAHA I could imagine this really happening! :D
