Hey guys,

So ive been doing research for a while now because im looking into getting a panther chameleon and im buying a massive exo terra tank about 4-5 ft tall and 3-4ft wide and im wondering if i put a fan (like a computer fan) at the top sucking out stale air, if that would work anyone do this?

Any advice in general about panthers would be awesome too thanks !:D

Welcome!

These tanks have pretty decent air flow, but I would assume that adding a small fan couldn't do any harm. You'll have to see how it affects your temps and humidity, since the big plus of glass tanks is that they keep these levels pretty stable.

Good luck with your future panther! :)

link me to the 4-5ft exo Id appreciate that. I can only find the 36 tall . I would like something taller though.

Panthers will STRESS OUT completely if they can see thier reflection in the glass..... Not a good plan.... Even if well ventilated. Dave

That's not necessarily true, as far as I've been able to tell it sounds like a myth. Like the mealworms eating their way out of your pet's gut if you don't clip their heads off. Call me crazy, but I haven't heard of a single case of a chameleon having an issue with his reflection in glass - many people have extreme success raising multiple generations of chameleons in glass. So I don't put a lot of stock in it personally.

I have kept 3 chams and the two females have always lived in Exos. My male also had a wooden viv with glass doors and I never observed them displaying any kind of behaviour that would suggest they could see their reflections. I've been keeping chams for almost 4 years now.

My husband just put a computer fan in the exo-terra that he's building for dart frogs. It's great for clearing the condensation off the glass since their humidity is so high, but it also maintained the humidity in there. Plus the airflow helps his bromeliads in there. So, I think it should work for a panther. One piece of advice - screen in the fan, actually make a little box around it and then screen it in, so that when your panther decides to check it out he won't get cut by the blades. Good luck with it, I'd love to see pictures when it's done since I've never seen an exo-terra that big!
