Vet want's me to pay $860 for MBD shots and ovariosalpingectomy please help ASAP she's dying slowly.

Dude don't be mean. There were/are better ways to get the message across.

Wasn't trying to be bitter. I just noticed that @Heebs mentioned they were 14 years old.... At that age, none of us probably had ANY money, and if we did, it was probably just enough for a movie and some popcorn, let alone a vet visit.

Chameleons are expensive. There is no getting around that. Always gotta expect the best but plan for the worst. I saved up for quite some time before purchasing mine, and have a small vet fund started in case I'm to ever need it. I also did extensive research, daily, for 2-3 hours a day, for about two weeks straight before getting my first chameleon. I wanted to know as much as I could so I could provide the best care that I can, and minimize errors which lead to vet visits.

Sadly though, most people, such as this case, purchase a chameleon from Petco or Petsmart out of impulse and have no idea what they are getting themselves into.

So I wasn't meaning to sound mean or bitter, I was just stating a general rule of thumb for ANY pet, not just chameleons. Gotta be prepared the best that you can. I'm not saying a 14 year old isn't able to care for a cham... What I'm simply saying is that you must be fully aware of its health at ALL times and know what to look out for (including before you purchase, if you are purchasing in a store).

Either way, best of luck to your chameleon, HEEBS, in whatever it is that you choose to do.

That's why I always say that "If you cant afford the VET, then DONT BUY THE PET !"

What a cruel thing to say.

I wouldn't do surgery on a chameleon for $850 and I would be less inclined to do surgery on a chameleon with health problems.

What makes you think that a person is required to spend $850 just because they own it?

Aside from whether a person is morally obligated to pay that kind of money for a pet, have you ever thought that the chances are very very very slim that this compromised animal will survive surgery? Just because JannB is prepared to spend that kind of money on her chameleons doesn't mean everyone should or even can. My goodness, you are talking to a 14 year old child!
