vieled ate rocks :'(

Hi i need advice. my 6 month vieled cham ate about 3-4 rocks. had an xray done at a local animal hosptial but they dont dare recommend anything as they dont treat exotic reptile. any adive what i can do to save him?

Pray they pass. You've got a powerful one going your way right now. Oh...and check the vet list here for local reptile specialists.

Where did he find rocks? Replacing them with much larger river rocks will be a good idea.

he got the rocks from this bamboo plant i got as a gift that he has loved to just lounge in and then i cleaned his cage lil bit ago and found like 5 with poop on them. so now im more worried and shocked! i have scheduled a consult with a reptile vet in the morning as no one in my area had a reptile vet in the office.

If it's the decorative lucky bamboo you should not use it because it is toxic and veileds tend to eat plants.

ok so update on Rango. We went to a vet who gave him a shot of some liquid and an enama and he has passed all 3!!! so we should be in the clear!!!!! Also the vet said she hasnt heard that they would do that. He said he deals with it more with bearded and geckos. Any other "no brainer" tips you folks can pass to me plz doo!!!!!!! TY

not only will chameleons eat weird things from time to time you also have to be worried about them shooting for their prey and catching in their mouth foreign objects.. Just look all around your cage and see if there are any potential hazards that their tongue could draw into their mouths. I don't know if you have any substrate in the bottom of your cage, but if you do, you should remove it! Glad your chameleon is ok. You are lucky the rocks were small enough to pass.

yes i do feel so lucky that he turned out great!!! I do have bark in the bottom of his cage via research lol! but i love every "duh/no brainer" tips cuz im a first time owner =)

glad to hear all has turned out well for you and your cham
most keepers keep the bottom bare as your cham may accidently eat the bark as well

its good he passed them, you shouldnt have substrate as if they are missing small micronutrients they will often taste it. Janns blog has good info, read up on it
