Vitamin A deficiency :)

Hello! I took my 3 month veil to the vet today since he has been showing signs of having a RI. But after seeing the vet who has extensive knowledge and is board certified with chams she told me that my little guy just has a vitamin A deficiency. He was squeaking and gasping but did not have thick saliva. The vet informed me that vitamin A is what helps a chams throat stay smoothly coated, so if he has a lack of vitamin A then a chameleons mouth and throat get a more rough texture kinda like how we get a dry throat when we sleep sometimes and that is why he was squeaking so much. I have some oral vit. A drops that I'll use every three days per the vets instructions and he should be doing great in no time! Thank you for all the help! Y'all are awesome!!!!

If it is a vitamin A issue and you're now giving it vitamin A I would expect that it would show improvement to in a few days.
What form of vitamin a is being given?

I hope so! It's a liquid oral form. :) He hasn't squeaked or opened his mouth once since the first dose of it this morning.

It bugs me because so many vets immediately jump to vitamin A deficiency and dose the chameleon with it.
What (brand) vitamin powder do you use to dust the insects with?
What other supplements do you use?

Repashy calcium plus and then reptivite with D3 twice a month

Since you were already using reptivite that has prEformed vitamin A in it I'm wondering why the chameleon was still short in the vet's opinion.
Is there vitamin A in the repashy? If so what form?

I just got the reptivite since I just got the little guy :(, so I have not yet used the reptivite with D3. His Left eye was shut since yesterday too and she thinks that its also from the vitamin A issue. She didn't see anything in his eye.

You said..."I justgot the reptivite since I just got the little guy :(, so I have not yet used the reptivite with D3"...that makes more sense then.

Yup, I've had him 5 days, got the reptivite 2 days ago and wasn't quite sure when his first dose should be.

Ok...just trying to make sure I know the facts. That means that if you've been using that at most feedings the chameleon should have been getting enough vitamin A from that to not be deficient...so the on!y other likely way it could be deficient is that the mother was....I think.
