Vitamin A; the great debate?

So I have been treating Clouseau for stomatitis for the past ten to 14 days; he is on enrofloxacin and metronidazole; The stomatitis is improving slowly but now he is keeping his left eye shut and when it is open the lid is not fully open and the eye looks a little watery but no drainage. Also when looking at him straight on the eyes are asymmetrical; the left not as far out as the right. He also does that closing the eye and rolling it around thing. He has not shed recently. So, he and Omar both get Herptivite with betacarotene twice a month and Omar is having no eye issues at all.

My question is this; Could this be related to the stomatis? The area of his jaw under the left eye has the worst of the areas of inflammation/brown tissue. I also wonder if there could be a foreign body in the eye. I do not have a shower in which I could put him, so I was going to try to hand mist a couple times a day in addition to the automated spraying. OR could this be related to Vitamin A? The right eye is totally unaffected.

It is hard to say what the cause is exactly. Only thing we can do is process of elimination.

1. (This can be used with #3 also) If you believe it is something in the eye. Long mistings will help your little guy out. If your weather permits. Take him outside and go buy one of those pump sprayers. Try this a couple times a day for 15 minutes or so.

2. If you believe it is a VitA process issue. Change your multivitamin to a product with preformed VitA. In the meantime to help him get his levels back to normal. Take a cod liver capsule and smear the oil on "One" cricket or feeder at the next feeding. If you see no improvement, repeat at the following feeding. I would personally not do this more than 5 feedings in a row. If it still exist, your problem is probably not related.

***Note: For what it is worth. It does not matter you have another panther doing well on the same vitamin schedule. Some are more sensitive to what VitA source they are offered as compared to another. I have witnessed this first hand.

3. His eye looking a little watery kinda throws me in the direction that he may have an infection. I can say i dont notice my panthers eyes being watery at all. A vet visit may be the best option.

We have an appointment for Tuesday. He is already on two antibiotics for the stomatitis; I am hoping it is related to the stomatitis and is just some type of referred discomfort from that. He seems to be improving with the mouth issue. Initially he had brownish tissue on both the upper and lower jaws but now just the upper.

Even though the mouth and eyes are connected through the sinus duct/passage to the choana. I would'nt throw any bets at it.

Can you post pics of the mouth and eyes please?

If you think it could be vitamin A, try giving him a dose of preformed vitamin A (not carotene) and see if it helps

A watery eye suggests an infection or similar, not a vitamin deficiency.

Please be aware if you use COD LIVER OIL as a source of vitamin A you are also giving the chameleon D3.
