Wants out.

So I hope my video shows. This is Pasquale he spends most of his day trying to get out. I let him out then it is impossible to get him back out as he hisses and bites. We bought him a plant but he's so dumb he climbs to the least sturdy branch and then falls off. I have to put a blanket around the bottom for when he falls. He scratches at the corner of the doors and now I noticed his nails are missing. He is a real pain.

Sorry. I guess not. Just wanted a opinion on him trying to get out. But my video didn't post so nevermind.

Mine loves to be out. Will run often when u open cage. He hates going back in but he will with no hissing or bites. Is yours wild caught?

He sounds more afraid or uncomfortable than dumb to me.

First I would make sure there's nothing in his cage that's driving him to tear his nails out. A loose insect that spooks him, a bad temperature; anything. After that I would cover some of the interior screen surfaces with some plastic garden fencing, which is dirt cheap at Home Depot or Lowes. Out in the garden section, it looks like a roll of plastic grid or hex. The plastic fence is much safer for his little toenails than the aluminum screen, and it also gives you all sorts of ways to attach branches and such.

You can also shore up the free range area with some more structure. The leftover fence and a few bucks worth of half-inch pvc pipe and fittings will do it. A Google search along those lines should turn up enough pictures to get you going on something cool.

In the long term you're going to love having a chameleon that wants to come out into the world. For now you just want to make sure he's got a safe place to hang out.
