I'm a huge rap fan so things like;

The game, wiz, lupe, eminem, jayz, kid cudi, weezy, kayne, common, tribe, biggie, 2pac, nas, royce, etc. with a sprinkiling of, big l, d12, Luda, jadakiss, t.I., talib, some r&b artists like mario, rayj, akon, Bruno mars, mjb, (love me some) Alicia Keys:D, and lots of underground artists like terminology, vakill, plat, elzhi, immortal (before he sold out) , swollen members, and others. Just about anything with great lyrics and a solid beat.

Favorite songs:

Forever young by jayz
Sing for the moment by eminem
Thugz mansion by tupac
Just to name a few :)

Thats not a cover, its Jayz rapping on top of the original, with some quick tapping drums in the background.

Im sorry, but thats just trash.

Original is much better...

It is not trash! Wow some one is over critical and over judgmental. Not what this thread is about. I'm actually a fan of that remake. Cover or remake wrong choice of words on my part. Jay Z does not receive originality points for the making the song however if your a fan of hip hop at all it is a good remake. The fact he has got one of the original band members (the lead singer) singing in this remake says a lot. There are many people who do not care for the original band however became fans because of this remake, keep that in mind. Music is a good way to build bridges when you keep an open mind I would not listen to music with a narrow mind. Just saying!

Here's a band that does not have a narrow mind. They merge many kinds of music and have built many bridges. They have even done songs with Jay Z.

Just my opinion on the tune, not trying to be hateful my friend.

I dont like how unintelligent the majority of the lyrics are, so its hard for me to listen to. Like most news reports.;)

Joking aside, I guess I was just taken aback that a song I really like was redone in that way, but more power to them.

Sorry for getting off topic.

Heres another that disappointed me :p

You use the worst examples to describe a genre of music while I choose to the best examples to describe of genre of music. I cannot speak about the majority of modern day hip hop and rap. However if you think the rap or hip hop community are not intelligent you are seriously out of touch with what is going on with that community.

You obviously prefer the original that's totally OK and cool. We all walk to the beat of our own drum.

Did not say that.

That statement sounds as though your more than suggesting that notion.

Back to the music...

I understand why you got that impression.

I wasnt suggesting that the artists are unintelligent, just that the lyrics they use seem, in my opinion, unintelligent.

I was speaking on that song particularly, I am aware that there is music from that genre that utilizes very thoughtful and intelligent lyrics.

I have more of an issue with country music than I do rap or hip-hop, though its fairly close.

Again, not trying to hate.

If anyone has good examples of either of those genres, that dont seem like they are tailor made for people without some moderate education, Id love for them to share.

Alphaville singer:

Let's dance in style, let's dance for a while
Heaven can wait, we're only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?
Let us die young or let us live forever
We don't have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The music's for the sad man
Forever young, I wanna be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever and ever
Forever young I wanna be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever, forever

Jay Z:

So we live a life like a video when the sun is always out
And you never get old and the champagne's always cold
And the music is always good and the pretty girls
Just happen to stop by in the hood
And they hop their pretty *** up on the hood of that pretty *** car
Without a wrinkle in today 'cause there is no tomorrow
Just some picture perfect day to last a whole lifetime
And it never ends 'cause all we have to do is hit rewind
So let's just stay in the moment, smoke some weed, drink some wine
Reminisce, talk some ****, forever young is in your mind
Leave a mark that can't erase neither space nor time
So when the director yells cut, I'll be fine, I'm forever young

Most of understanding and hearing music comes from perspective and to truly understand and hear a good or quality song you have got to have been a part of that community. Whether it is rap, hip hop, country, metal, punk or any other type of music. Many of the times when something seems dumb or unintelligent it is because you are listening as an outsider and do not know what is going on. Music is an art and all arts are forms of personal expressions. The way your approaching it seems as ignorance on your part.
