what breed is friendliest

I have a veiled Chameleon and he is not so friendly, doesnt like to be bothered.
Are other types of Chameleons any friendlier?

It is hit and miss. Some turn out to be friendly but species don't seem to be much of a determination. I have heard that panthers are a little more friendly, but I have one nice guy and a monster :D

Hit and miss is right-I have a completely easily handled huge male Veiled and a male Panther that would take my head off. You just don't get a chameleon wanting it to be friendly.

my male veiled used to want to kill me in my sleep, but now that i handle him more, whenever i open his cage, he will crawl onto me. hit or miss.

Veils are known to be slightly aggressive. I recently came across a veiled stud at a Petco in my area and was very tempted to purchase him. It was obvious that he did not like being housed in a glass enclosure or people staring at him as he would frequently make himself expand and charge the glass. I believe Panthers tend to be more docile. I would give it some time and let him warm up to you. Minimize handling until he adjusts. Eventually he will become familiar with your presence allowing him to relax. Keep in mind, Chams are not affectionate animals. They are solitary animals with individual personalities. You the owner will have to adapt to his personality and likes. It's a growing process but well worth it.

Good luck!

Mostly depends on the animal... not so much where he is from. If you are mean and uncaring your cham will feel the same about you.

My Panther is soo friendly. He bit me once... when he was just months old.. and I was being impatient with him... I had only myself to blame.

Now he'll wait at the front of his cage to be picked up. Maybe he does just want to escape but he never ever hisses or shows his throat to me. Once he is out he seems to like climbing all over me, rather than on the furniture.

He is a Sambava. I know someone else who has a Sambava and they say theirs is exactly like this too.

About 7 years ago I raised a male veiled who turned out to be HUGE but was the nicest chameleon ever. He was like a cat! Came out on his own, usually just sat on my arm or lap and watched tv with me, and would let me touch him anywhere and do pretty much whatever i wanted to him and didnt care one bit. A couple friends of mine each got a male from the same clutch and theirs were meaner than a dog shyting tacs! One of those friends also had a big nosy be male that was very tame. I also had a female that i bred with my veiled a couple times and she was as mean as they come. And my 7 month old male veiled I have now is just as mean although he settles down a bit once he's out of his cage and his territory. So i guess what im saying is pretty much what everyone else is saying(now that ive written a novel here), you don't really know what kind of temperment your chameleon is gonna have! Hope that helped:D

My veiled cham is very friendly. Try hand feeding and go very slow when you approach him. He may get use to you in time. Some do and some don't. Jann

I have a panther who is super friendly. He will crawl out to me, I can hand feed him and spray water right into his mouth. :D

I have 2 chameleons that are exactly polar opposite of each other.
my veiled is a monster and the panther is calm and composed.

when the veiled first arrived, he already tried to bite me (he was 2.5 mo at that time) and continued to be super pissy to this day. Took him 3 weeks to adjust to his environment. He come out of his cage only on his term.

The panther (just recently got him) adjust to his environment within 2 days.
Never freak out at my presence. Eat in front of me and realize right away that i am his provider.

One thing to note though is they are different if they are wild caught or captive bred. The wild's are...wild...and not as friendly, at least not initially. I have one and I like her and we chill...but I think she is just a nice cham. The CB's are supposed to be more calm and healthier.

children these days  Some just don't understand :D:p

Our Meru Jackson was VERY even tempered and hardly ever hesitated to climb up onto the benevolent hand of treats, for sunshine or cage cleaning (with the appropriate muscle burning patience until she decided for sure) showing her most contented colours (sorry Canuck spelling)

HOWEVER. After a recent trip to a heavy handed vet who grabbed her out of the shoe box (much like a predatory bird might in a tree-top) she is a changed girl. Gaping, faux biting, and doing everything to avoid the evil hand of terror. (still changes back to happy once I manage to convince her it's okay)

Bottom line ... even the "friendliest" breed is subject to nurture as well as nature.

Study the options then flip a coin and hope for the best!:D

Ive had a mixed bag so far dealing with chams. My veiled USE to climb onto my hand whenever I would open his cage...he stopped doing that since I moved him into a bigger cage, so im thinking the reason he use to do that was to get out of a cramped cage :p

My panther Dooku was a wild beast when I first got him....extremely aggressive! He would get very mad if you got anywhere close to him. After a month of hand feeding super worms and crickets hes "tamed" down some but I still think he prefers to be left alone.

My girlfriend is still on his @$^# list. If Im handling him and she anywhere close he puffs up and opens his mouth.

Hand feeding does help.

I think my two Jacksons are good examples of sweet and easy to handle chameleons. My male always comes to the front and climbs right onto me. My female is becoming the same.
My veiled love me to pet him (in his cage behind the large mesh), but he's not comfortable riding on me. Or outside the cage at all. I could get bit if I'm not completely careful. And yet he's a big baby inside when I poke my fingers through to touch him.
So my vote goes to Jacksons all around. :D
