What can we feed our Chameleon?

Hello,

We have a (almost) 4 week old Veiled/Yemen Chameleon and currently all we are feeding him is crickets.

We believe that he is too small/young to allow him to eat locusts or mealworms! When can we introduce different food into his diet?

Any help/guidance would be gratefully received.

Fruit flies and pin head crickets are all he can really eat right now.

How did you get a baby so young? They really shouldn be sold before 3 months old.
 
He was the right size to sell?? I didn't know you weren't supposed to buy them until a certain age :confused::confused:
 
no he wasnt.

4 week olds are super small. ( I have veiled hatchlings now)

Chams shouldnt be sold before 2.5-3 months old because until that point they are very susceptible to stress and change.
 
This isn't really the point of the question.
We wanted advice on what we could feed him not to be told that we shouldn't have him.

We did not know we were not supposed to have him, we are sorry if this has annoyed you but we can't really do anything about it now.

And my response wasnt me trying to make you feel bad.
It was me telling you so you know for future reference.

Many of us start off with one, and then we get more, and if you decide to do that, which is great, its better to be an informed buyer. Thats all.

the point of this forum is to learn and teach.

Wouldnt you like to know that the seller (NOT YOU) made a mistake, so you know what to look for in the future?

Camimom was not criticizing you. We all were surprised that someone would sell you one that young. It was meant as a warning that your chamy could be stressed. No one on here wants to make you feel bad. It's all about learning what is and isn't safe or good for your baby. We're all here to help one another. :confused:

Because we are now aware that our Chameleon is too young is there anything that we should be doing to help us ensure we do not cause him any problems?
 
Just make sure he has the proper enclosure, lighting, supplements, and as far as food goes yes only pinhead crickets and or fruit flies. He's very tiny and it's pretty crucial to start him off on the right track. :)

We have an Exo Terra 45 x 45 x 60 cm vivarium, with the uv and heat lamps, temperature and humidity gauges, we have a water fountain and we put calcium powder on the crickets regularly. we spray him 3-4 times a day, making sure his humidity does not drop below 40% is this ok??:confused::D
