What do I do!

I just got my cham 3 weeks ago and I think he already has parasites. Just the vet appointment cost is 68 dollars and the fecal test is 42. Then I would have to pay for the medication. I'm really not in the position to be spending that money and my parents will be pissed if I ask them to help out. Is there any other option? I can make a withdraw from my account (something I've never done) but I don't think my parents will like that either. I have a check coming in but I owe someone some money as it is. I know this seems like an impossible situation to deal with but, any suggestions?

Sorry to hear the bad news.

Have you even got the results back yet? If so what parasites does your cham have?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I haven't gone in for a fecal yet. The cost is the issue. Re-read my post maybe?

Yeah i didn't fully understand your post.

What makes you think your cham has parasites? And what parasites do you think your cham has?

My last cham had coccidia & pinworms. So I'm familiar with parasites.

sorry for not replying. I just had a bunch of people over. I think he has parasites cuz he hasn't eaten in about a week and he sleeps for at least a few hours every day. He is looking skinnier too. I know it's not because of a shed because he finished his shed about 2 weeks ago. And I don't know enough about or have any experience with parasites so I'm not sure what kind they could be. :(

you need to get your chameleon to a vet. It is the right thing to do. He if does have parasites he is going to die if you do not get him the proper medication. Borrow the money from someone. Explain to your parents that your chameleon is going to suffer and die if he goes untreated.

Can you fill in the help form, please? It sounds like something else is wrong, to me.

I'm not at all an expert on chameleon ailments but I strongly advise you listen to the quoted members advice. You may just have a simple problem with your setup or something.

Hmm, everything reads fine on your end (except perhaps making your misting sessions a little longer, he shouldn't have yellow urates at all), so I have to wonder if he wasn't shipped to you in great health to begin with.

How long has he been keeping his eyes closed during the day?
What was he like when he first arrived? Alert, moving about?

I don't see anything that tells me that he has parasites and that these are what's making him ill. Getting a fecal done is always a good idea but I just don't think that a CB baby chameleon has such a parasite load already that he's ill from them.

I'd go see a vet and have him/her help you get some food into him. He'll be able to show you exactly how to give him a formula food like Carnivore Care or a bug mush that you can make yourself at home via syringe.

Forgot about the bug shake...Thats another good way to make sure your cham is eating.

I'm not sure how long his eyes are closed because I am not home the majority of the day. I'd say a few hours though. No more than 3-4 hours. He seemed fine when I first got him. He was shy though (but that is to be expected). He was also eating when I first got him. Not as much as he should be but around 5-7 pinheads a day. And I thought yellow urates were fine. Just as long as it's not orange or brown. I thought it varied for chameleons.
