What kind of chameleon is this?

It has a bit of edema. Try to figure out what it was dusted with, how many times, insects fed, how much hydration etc. More than likely cut back on the supplements a little and good water and it should go away.

How did you determine this cham has edema? Also, what is edema? and how do you treat it? just wondering.

The picture makes me believe this is a male for one. Secondly, the rostal processes in hoehneli are decent sized in both sexes.

Here are examples of both males and females, full grown.

First I would like to say, that is the coolest composition of cham photos ever!
And second, I still dont think its a rudis. I do agree that the rostral is not as pronounced in the one pictured as the pics from the link, but there could be reasons for that, old injury, birth defect, or just bad genetics. And there is still a rostral pictured, the coloring, the casgue, the face, everything says hoe to me.
Its coloring is off from a rudis as well. I looked at fl chams (I actually look at their site several times a week hoping a female hoe will come available) and dont think that the cham pictured is a rudis. i will say it could be a male, though the one pic is hard to really tell, and it wont load all the way to make it bigger on my computer.

The scales on the body looks more like a hoe with some scales larger than others sporadically scattered. It seems like the "rudis" have more uniform body scales.

Edit: didn't see Trace's response. Thanks Trace! Now I can tell them. :)

i think its a hoehnelli too, a female one... but i can't tell very well with just a picture (if anyone wants the picture larger, just click it, it becomes huge!)

it is a build up of fluid. It seems to be common in the gular and from what I remember, members were told to cut back on supplements. See in the pic where it is kinda puffy between his/her front legs? Sometimes I think it just goes away on its own. you can probably search and find old threads with pics and info

Thanks! I did see that, but I wasnt sure if it was something wrong.
Glad to know so I can keep an eye out for it with Kermit.
I only supplement him every other feeding with repashy.

As Trace and others have said, its definitely a Trioceros hoehnelii and it appears to be a female. Females do not always have pronounced rostral horn nubs.

Edema is caused by lots of reasons its not always that simple, but a good start to helping to remedy the situation. Good vets can help determine through blood testing. If I was you id be looking for a new vet in general with little more chameleons experience.

i dont think im going to give up on him yet. the vet doesnt need to know a ton although when i took her we discuussed wether it was an ednema to she was just really fat. she might be both  i pre much just need him for meds and testing. i was going to get a blood test done but for now im going to raise the temps(done yesterday) and mist alot more and cut back supps. i'll watch her and see how she does and anything left over from that will be readressed with the vet again.

Wow, okiroo if you say it's your girl than it is! I apologize if I offended you by posting a picture. Your vet posted it to a veterinary forum to get some input from the expert exotic vets. I can't give you the link because you have to log in to view so you wouldn't be able to see it. Your vet just had a few questions, like whether or not it is edema and wanted to make sure your husbandry was correct (he had nothing bad to say about you or your husbandry!) and since he said it was a veiled I wanted to make sure he knew that it wasn't before he told you anything wrong. I was thinking Hoe but wanted to make sure since her nose shape isn't what I was expecting (but I don't have any experience with them), which is why I posted it. Sorry about that!
