Hi all im new to the forums and have just purchased 2 Ambilobe Panther Chameleons 1 Male and 1 Female. Was just wondering what kind of other types of food could I feed them besides crickets. I've heard mealworms and such are bad for them as they could chew there way through the stomachs or they are hard to digest do to there shell. I bought 1 jar of Repashy Bug Burger and 1 Jar Repashy Calcium Plus. I have a running water fall in the screen cage and also have a dripper from the top, I also mist them with a sprayer. Any suggestions to help in the care for them would be greatly appreciated thx :D

Welcome!

First, that thing about the mealworms, is a myth, total crap, and totally impossible.

You don't want to feed them a lot because of the hard exo skeleton which causes impaction.

Next- are you housing them together? If so, you need to separate. immediately.

we recommend feeding crickets, roaches, hornworms, silkworms, mantids.

there is a care sheet posted here on the forum that would be very helpful.

You can feed superworms instead of mealworms. also, please remove waterfall, as it will breed bacteria. most chams won't drink from standing water. good luck and enjoy.

Oh dear, please separate them immediately! Never ever keep two chams in the same cage!!! Even if you don't see it, they stress out by seeing other chameleons. In the wild they are completly solitary except from when they are to mate. Your chams can die from that stress.

Ok thanks for the replies, I was able to take the female back and instead I got a Veiled Cham. I bought another cage and now both my Panther and Veiled Cham are by themselves. :D

Barrier Between

Thanks for listening to the advice on here and getting a second cage ad getting rid of the water fall. So many times advice is given and ignored. It was refreshing to see someone listen. It shows you care for your new pets.

Continue to do research, especially in the forums about enclosures and sowly add more stuff to your cages especially horizontal branches and live plants. There are reat pictures of people's set ups I have gotten several ideas from others pictures.

If you have one sorry I couldn't see it in the pictures but you will need to put a barrier between the cages so they can't see each other. They are very teritorial and want to be the only Chameleon in the area.

Great job keep up the good work.

p.s I only see one light on each cage is that an all in one light that provides UVB and Heat for basking. They need both. Thanks
