MY FEMALE VEILED CHAMELEON was born at the begining of july i have had her since aug 11. she was doing great and hopefully is still doing great but the last few days she has been opening her mouth. i don;t know why! i have a drip system which drips on the leaves in her tank and it has been there since i got her. and i also spary the tank down twice a day if not more.. i have a heat bulb in one corner and a uva uvb in the other.. she is still eating her crickets... this is the only odd thing she is doing.. some times she is a dark color in her tank also... some times she goes to the bottomm of her tank but thats where most of the crickets stay she eats and goes right back up.. am i stressing over nothing?
could it be to hot in there for her.. where basking lamp is its usually 90 in there and the humidty is always good.
if any one can help and let me knwo why shes doing this please conact me! thanks
i have a video of her doing it.. but i duno how to uplaod it

i have a male veiled he's only 10 months old and he does this aswell i was told it may of been because he was rather hot but i dont really know why he does this either his living conditions are fine he drinks loads and still eats fine when he has done this i have looked in his mouth to try and see if it was something in his mouth bugging him but that looks fine too

um no she does it under the normal uva and ivb light to...ive tried even taking her out and pour water infront of her but nothing.. i don't think she drinks alot...
so no need to be stressing out?

No need to stress ,All of my Chameleons have done it and have stopped as they get older. It is that they are too hot and are trying to cool off.

When they are young they seem not to be smart enough to move out of the spot lamp when they have heated them selves.

Check your temps and make sure the basking is around 85 or so but try to keep it under 90 and the ambient air is 70-75 or so. Babies need it a little cooler. Raise the light or try a lower wattage bulb. When you Chameleon gets a little older (5 months or so) the basking temp can be raised to 90-95.

I give her everything she needs rep cal phosphorus free calcium with Vit d3 and rep-cal herptivite ... whens shes not in her basking light she changes to a dark color like i just took this pic now well not super dark but darker then she was in the other two pics.. shes under the uva uvb bulb in this pics.. she also sometime tries to climb up the glass tank .. thats what it looks like any ways.. some time it seems like she doesn;t like it in her tank but i can't think of a reason why she wouldn't other then it being to hot ,.
shes is in a glass terrium right now but i have a 60gallon mesh tank i was told to put her in that in a few months.
in this pics you can see dryness close to her belly? is this normal.. she had it b4 she shed. and she shed once maybe two days ago and it was all off of her within maybe 3hours.

You mentioned you have a basking bulb in one corner and a uvb bulb in the other. Does this mean you have a twisty bulb or do you have a linear bulb?

I think your chameleon is too hot in that glass tank. Would you please fill this out so we will be better able to help you? Also this website is VERY helpful. http://raisingkittytheveiledchameleon.blogspot.com/

Good catch! I didn't catch that.

Would you mind also let us know what you temps are?

Edit - the form above should provide all the answers .....

So you are using an exoterra? Oh brother not again, let me guess the people at the pet store said it was a good cage for chams cuz their picture is on the box. You cham is probably to hot in the tank.

In my opinion it looks as though she is just gaping to remove excess heat within her..she looks healthy too i wouldnt worry to much keep an eye on her.

90 F in a glass tank is plenty hot.
your baby is opening its mouth to vent some heat.
I think it's time to remove her out from the tank and put her in the flexarium cage you have.

90 is too much heat for a glass cge.you should put her in a medium screen cage and put the basking light in one of the corners.she is exausting heat because you got her tank too hot.

way to small for your flexarium, you bought her a little to early also. rule of thumb is chams shouldnt be sold until 3 months.

How long are your misting sessions? you should be misting at least 3 times a day at 3-4minutes a time.

You also need to lower your temps, they are way to high especially for a 2 month old.

ps. for that lady to be a "cham lover" she must not be much of a "cham keeper."

Move to the screen cage ASAP

Lighting - two flukers 5.5 lamp clamps one has a 13w repti glo 5.0 uvb & the other has a 60w sun glo and the fact you have no live plants.

You should change out the reptiglo 5.0 uvb bulb to a liner bulb. The tube florescent bulb. Get a reptisun 10 from LLL. The bulb you have could be harmful. You should also add real plants. They are really important to provide water and humidity.

I would also add a multivitamin to your dusting schedule.

Monitor and modify your temps.

i drop my 1-2 week old hatchlings in teh screen cages and they thrive.

im not a expert about chams i only have 1 and he's only 10 months old so i cant say about what cage i think you should be using but like i posted earlier my cham did this because he was too hot and it was because he's in a glass viv which he's still in but he was near a window and obviously on a hot day when i left the blind open the sun shone into his cage but was goin through two layers off glass so i always keep my blind closed and he doesn't do it alot and if he does i'll open his door for a little bit untill i can builed him a more airier home
