When do I need a bar UVB light?

My chameleon is getting older now and I'm wondering if he needs a bar yet. his cage is now 2ft wide, 2ft deep, and 4ft tall. he is about 9-12 months. I have just a bulb UVB right now.

hey, regardless the age, every chameleon needs the long liner uvb bulb with the correct fixture. This compact uvb bulb does not produce the correct amount of light your chameleon needs. Since it is kind of rolled up, most of the uvb gets in thin air and leaves your chameleon with little to no uvb to absorb. So your buddy will definitely appreciate you buying him either arcadia 6 or 12% or reptisun’s t5 uvb bulb 💡.

yep I’ll second it. All Chams need a linear UVB light. Currently there is no other way to provide UVB to keep them healthy

ok what brand do you use, how long does a bulb last?
It depends on the brand. There are two best brands out there you can definitely be sure about the quality.
1. Arcadia 6% or 12% (keep in mind when you get 12% that means more light output, so you need to rise the bulb higher so you don’t overexpose your chameleon.
The arcadia bulbs have a year lifespan.
2. Reptisun t5 are the other good brand. Their bulbs are with 6 months of a lifespan.
Other thing to keep in mind is the fixture. The fixture is always couple inches bugger than the actual bulb. I do recommend getting the bulb and the fixture together ( the same brand) or it can be kind of confusing trying to mix and match the fixture and the bulbs from different brands. I attach a picture with the correct distances you should put the uvb.

And the bulb UVB has super high concentrations at 6 inches and little beyond that

It goes from probably unsafe to not helpful very quickly
