So at what age do you suggest moving up to a 2x2x4 size cage?

My Cham is a 5 month old male and ATM he is in a 16x16x30 reptibreeze

Thx:D

Yeah, anytime between about 5 and 9 months I guess is usual. My Veileds were about 6 months each when they 'upgraded'.

Me too, I moved mine at about 5-6 months, depending on how big they were. I think by this point they're old enough to know how to hunt in a bigger cage and appreciate the space.

Your Cham will tell you. Lol , sounds funny but they will start wondering the cage and even spend time on the bottom (almost looking for a way out). Once I moved my Chams to larger cages all this stopped. They were about 6 months old. Not sure of this was a sign, but it was right around the time they started to drop sperm plugs.

Yeah, true that - except my male Veiled Rinty still likes to go for a good wander along the bottom every now and again :)

i started all my males in their adult cages. i just partitioned their cage to the top half of the cage and made sure their food and water was towards the top of the cage. they all hunted and drank fine w/o any issues. no my females i started in a bin and when they grew large enough, i put them in their adult cage.

This^^

My chameleon has started to act this way and I took it as a sign that he wants a bigger house!

I can't believe that they can out grow their cage that fast. i just got mine when he was 3 1/2 months and some are saying at 5 months i need to upgrade? kind of seems over kill. then again i'm new with chams. I like the idea of waiting for my Cham to tell me when he's ready. good post!

You'd be surprised how quickly some chameleons outgrow their cages. It depends how much they eat and such, but some look huge by the time they're 5-6 months old, while others have a more paced growth and will be fine a couple more months in their baby cage.

I have 2 Chams that are 3 weeks apart in age. One is 2x the size of the other. What may be an appropriate cage for the smaller one may not be the case for the larger one ( even though they are really close in age)

My breeder believes my cham is 5 1/2 months old (born in November) but I find it hard to believe as she is still really tiny. Maybe it’s just her size and she’s a little tiny or she got her dates wrong. What do you think??

I Started my chameleons in their adult cages, but with smaller branches. There was never an issue , save the money unless you plan on breeding , just start with the cage you want, in the wild they have.... well, the wild and they do just fine.

She looks like about 3 months but they can all grow differently and can depend on what food, gutload and how much is fed.

Welcome to the forum.

@Melon_the_cham ...are you aware that female panther chameleons can produce eggs without having mated?
Once they reach maturity you need to watch that you don't overfeed them to keep the clutch size down.

About what―her age or when to upgrade to an adult cage?
Age: Some species are sexually dimorphic with regard to size; she looks (to my inexperienced eye) like a panther, but IDK.
Cage upgrade: ASAP. I agree with those who start out with an adult-sized cage, just as those in the wild start out with an adult-sized jungle.
