Where do you keep all of your chams???

:) OK-let's have it. Where is everyone keeping their cages? I need to creatively figure out how to get more cages in the house so that it really doesn't look too messy! I even have a cham in the bedroom. My dining room is disappearing! Tell me your secrets! I am planning on at least 4 more chams in the near future! I am thinking it probably wouldn't be too good an idea to boot a college aged kid out quite yet for my new hobby!

Rack systems are the way to go for optimising space i have not built one for chams but i have built sevral for fish and freinds crestend geckos. if you are not a very good builder then you could get some of those shelves that stores use for there merchandise and fit a cage in there. right now i have the chams in my room,my school was doing some remodoling so i snaged the tracks and rails that are used in nurses offices and partitioned them of.

I have no idea but as soon as you know, please share it with me! I have 2 in my bedroom, 4 in the living room, one in the dining room, one in the utility room and a pygmie tank in the kitchen... and those are just chameleon cages! I also have 4 leopard geckos, a big old lazy bearded dragon and a recently acquired corn snake (snakes aren't really my thing but he needed a home). Add a 4 year old and a cat into a 2 bedroom apartment and it is a mini zoo :)

Room and shop. I recently moved in with my grandma until my condo is done getting built... I have 5 chameleon cages, a pygmy tank and a leopard tort in it. However it is a rather large room, when winter rolls around I am going to move everything out into my shop if the condo is still not done. I have TONS of room for 100’s of cages if I so desire. However Darci and I are fond of the racks you can get from Costco (http://www.stacksandstacks.com/html/zoom108571.htm something like this) if you don’t want to hang anything ON your walls by way of shelving. However when we get into the condo one room is going to be the reptile room. We are going to tile the floor (we think) and put in some shelves that hang on the wall in lengths that will accommodate the size of case we use. The large closet will house all the eggs and extra stuff and the other half of the room will have the same racks but for bearded dragons… Darci wants to put a futon in the room; she is dreaming… LoL… No way in heck there will be enough room! Id post a pic but my cam is dead…

has anyone seen any racks that are good for chams. these racks seems to be able to work for other reptiles but not for chams needing the height

Found a picture of one of my racks.

I give my closet to him in the winter and he gets the morning sunny window in the spring/summer. Now I have all 3 along the sunny window with windows open 24/7. I'd thought about suspending cages from the ceiling there as well on hooks.

Howdy,
I have one 10'x12' room dedicated to chameleon keeping. Here's an old photo. Things are a little bit different from the photo these days but not much...

Dave, you should make and sell the plexiglass (i am guessing that is the material) drainage trays. I would love to have about 5 of them but I am just not that crafty!

I have 2, in my room.

I live above my parents indoor pool so the room is massive, got a full size snooker table in here which diesn't get used. Maybe if we get rid of it I'll have to get one of those stack shelves :D

I've got mine in my home office, my dining room, my solarium, two extra bedrooms upstairs and I have a row of hatchling cages in my front open foyer. My husband's only requirement is that the house doesn't look like a pet shop. So I put them on top of display cabinets and other long and flat chest-like pieces of furniture. I buy long plywood sections and cut them to the proper length. I put that on top of the wood furniture to protect it and increase the surface length. I put two or three 18x18x36 cages in a row on top of that. Or sometimes just one big 18x30x36 cage for a big male. The cages line the sides of each room. The furniture, if any, is in the middle. I try to keep the plants looking nice and actually pot them in real ceramic pots. I try to make the whole cage look like a work or art to meet my husband's requirement. It probably still looks like a petstore but it works for me :)

How do you go about misting them and not getting water all over your furniture and other items?

I wonder the same thing.

I've gotten flack for this, but I keep my cham in the closet. I use fans for airflow, I've lined the entire inside of the closet in plastic. I'm working on setting up some kind of drainage, and my wife wants me to buy a pro-mist so I don't give my drawing hand carpel tunnel. Here's some pics...

and a picture of course of Otto. Just finishing a head shed.

Well right now i have my cham in my room in my fathers house, with my turtle tank. Once i heal from my surgery im going to fix up my room in my mothers house, and only have a twin bed in order to feed my addiction. I would like to know if they have those racks but bigger, maybe i might check loews or homedepot.

For those that asked if the misting messed up the furniture......I put the plywood from Home Depot on top of the furniture. It's 18" wide which is the width of all the cages. This keeps any water from getting on the furniture. I mist all my chameleons by hand with a hand pump sprayer each day. I have a bunch of them filled up everyday and they sit for 24 hours to dechlorinate. Most people would think it's a pain in the ***. I enjoy it. I am at home every day anyway. I mist the foliage in each cage after I clean it up. I mist just the foliage. The furniture and the carpet does not get wet. I like watching to see that each chameleon is drinking and just how thirsty they seem for health reasons. Hatchlings get misted twice a day. For me it's part of my daily health check for each chameleon too. You can learn a lot about their health by watching them drink and how they behave while they are doing it. I also like the fact that I have personally cleaned up any doo doo before the misting. I never cared for the idea that an auto misting system could be misting poop too. That's my personal preference. If I was working away from home or gone all the time I would have some other system to be sure.....

Hey Catherine,
Would you mind showing us your arrangement? Atleast 1 area showing the plywood and the cages on it? Thanks a bunch!

Jim
