Where is everyone?

In a strange way this forum is in some ways a pseudo family, seeing the people on here that frequently post and in general are very active is reassuring. I think most people like to see a familiar person, we are all conected through our love of the species which is also what brings us closer. I also have to say that, it is nice to have a safe place to allow our cham craziness to be expressed and understood. I don't post often but, I do like to visit frequently. Thinking that I may need to go to the big expo. next year and meet the gang.:)

Hey I am from early 2008, that is close right? I am much the same as you in far as I do spend a lot of time reading on the forum but post less often. I do always answer pm's if anyone has a question. If all the information I can offer has already been given, I mostly read the thread and move on. I like to think of myself as an active, helpful part of the forum who is available when someone asks for help I can provide. As compared to Lynda, or to you Julie, I often chose to leave it to the two of you who I consider more knowledgeable.:D

I talked to Brad Ramsey and he told me about the same thing as Brad posted, his focus is on his family. I think he has his priorities in line. Lots of us can pick up the slack on here but his 2 boys are growing up and need him. I personally am happy for Brad even as I miss him.

Laurie, you are certainly one of the nice ones here on this forum. Your probably the only person I know who will send a chameleon w/o getting the money first. Kinyonga and Kent are great and have given me tons of help too. Then there is Ryan Jarosek, Chuck G, Jannb, Todnedo, Lancechams, Jared Cain and so many others that are great.

Ace said..."will there b a future "Syn"....a future "Kinyonga" ...future "Brad".....future "Ace"....gives me chills"...

I doubt that any of us can be replaced...we are all individuals and have our own "quirks"!

Everyone can become a regular with time!

I know that;)...but im saying in the WAY way way future, if this forums survives...it would be strange if the new comers will be errily simialr to anyone of us, either informative as you , or as nice as Laurie, or as funny as Jared(cainschams), or as "Synical" as "Syn":p......but im just rambling nonsense:p:cool:...

BTW to everyone on the forums i have had the pleasure and opportunity to talk to....

"I WUAV U GUYS/GALS":p:cool::D

Well, I finally got through all the posts to try to get caught up on, "Where is everone?", to find out where is everone....say that X3 fast! And I was pleasantly surprised to see some names post replies that I have not seen for some time -- and I am a relatively newcomer but I have still missed ya! I have so enjoyed logging in to see the jovial friendly banter, wise and kind concern and advice. To echo shanksfaml, "it is like a pseudo family", and while I am a minor member, it is nice to be able to come on in join you all once in awhile.

no one has mentioned that i dont post as much as i want to know. how sad. LOL

I have been so caught up with school and my swim team. I have a good load of new friends this year and thats keeping me busy and i have swim practice for 2 hours every day Mon-Fri. im on a team ;)

I do lurk on here everyday to see whats new. Like today i saw Laurie is a new Moderator! WOO HOO:D;):)

Has anyone heard from Susan James? I met her on the forums and we became good friends. I know she was dealing with some personal issues. I just hope all is well with her.

WOW, didn't know I was missed Eltortu, you made my day. Like TP Man said, I did re-home my chams and have been really busy, but never too busy to check in with my cham friends. I see alot of new members and glad the old ones are still around too!

Hayo! I am sure you will go back to caring for Melleris if I recall correctly... :)

Wow! I'm glad I started this thread!

Brad...I hope people will tell you if there is something they are bothered by.
I know that circumstances sometimes affect posting and that quite a few people move on to either other reptiles or just drop them altogether...but there still seemed to be a lot missing.

Thanks for the compliment Laurie. I still have a lot to learn even after 20+ years of keeping chameleons. (BTW...glad you're a moderator now.)

Pantherlover...glad I was of help to you. Looking forward to seeing your bundle of joy when it hatches! (I've never had an ambilobe!)

Cainschameleons...you even count the days??

Ricardo...what is your degree in?? Congrats!

Pardalisgirl...glad to hear that your husband is improving! I'm sure you will meet people in your new home area who keep chameleons and other lizards.

Draetish you were missed!

I haven't heard from Susan James for a while now...I hope she's okay.

Brandy and Will Hayward seem to have gotten out of chameleons....at least for now.

To all of the rest of you...glad to hear from everyone who posted....new and old. I didn't think this thread would get so many replies. I hope more people will at least pop in and say "hello"!

It's strange....the day I pop in to answer a Pm...I see this thread. I've not had time to post like I did in years gone by. My husband developed major heart issues which then caused problems in his kidneys. He was hospitalized several times. He's had multiple surgeries and sees four different specialists on a regular basis. That went on for about ten months. His situation is now greatly improved and we are back to a normal life now. I also edited and helped him write his 2nd book which is off at the publisher now. I spent hundreds of hours on that project.

{snip}

Anyway, I still have chams and geckos. Moving to Idaho with me are two adult iguanas, Veileds, Ambilobes, Ambanjas, Nosy Bes, Tamataves, Melleri, Crested Geckos, R. Leacheanus Geckos and a U. Fimbriatus Gecko. I will still have a very nice collection :)

That's the story regarding my long absence from the forums. I will greatly miss my local chameleon friends in Washington state. Not sure how many chameleon/gecko people I will meet in person in Northern Idaho.....

I'm so sorry that your husband was ill. I've been where you were (different, equally life threatening health issue). I'm glad he's doing better and your life is returning to normal. That's a wonderful feeling (noting that I hope you have a better return to normal than we did...my husband went back to work on September 10, 2001...we didn't really get a long time to enjoy the sense of "normal").

Welcome back.

Wow! I'm glad I started this thread!

You remind me of the silliest movie line ever..."You had me at hello, you had me at hello!"...I laugh like a maniac - to my self of course - every time I think of that line...ha!

Have not heard from merumontanus and pure. I would not mind hearing whats going on with them.

Seems like most everybody is preoccupied and seems to lurk instead of post lately.

I am still around... :p

Have been busy improving the world of misting, drainage and water filtration!

As someone said before, there is always a comment that can be left for the new members on improving their setup.... but not everyone wants to be preached at. I try to chime in on a thread that hasn't been beaten like a dead horse or seem to be going towards the wrong direction. If I have a fresh perspective, I post. Got really tired of the drama rama's and very pleased they are out of my life! This is a good place to learn and share. Glad Brad does a good job at keeping things level around here. He really does care about the community and keeping it true and friendly.

I have learned a lot from this forum and it's members. I contribute a lot of my knowledge to the local SBCK members I have known over the years (especial Dave Weldon!) and to the long time members of this forum who have been keeping for a long time. 99.99% of my melleri knowledge comes from Kristina Lukas Francis and Suzzane Boom, they are GREAT banks of knowledge! :)

If I remember correctly Pure got back into fish or something of the sort, and merumontanus is on facebook.

I wish I could have been apart of the old crew. Ha! Idk when this site was started but my first cham i got was when I was around 15, im 22 now, but I didnt have access to the internet so needless to say my first couple attempts at chameleon care was unsuccessful. But thanks to everyone here, this go around has been a BLAST! Expensive; but a blast non the less.

He had a couple of melleri, I wonder if he still keeps them. Isn't he friends with heather... something or other.... bridge to faith or something?

Don't know if I count or not but I'm checking in after a couple months away- life got crazy busy and too tired at the end of the day for a while. Feed the lizards or post the forums- feed the lizards wins. LOL Thought I'd better check in today and see if anything was in my pm box.

Hey Scott, good to hear from you. Got any good breeding projects working?

Haven't taken the time to try breeding the melleri in a few months. I've had green basilisks hatch this past week- quite a few bearded dragons the past couple months and have oodles of little red eye treefrogs and tadpoles we are growing. Turns out red-eyes multi-clutch. My son took a clutch to his classroom where they hatched them and grew them into froglets. I got a pair of pardalis as wee babies in a trade this spring that are going to be ready to breed before winter is through too- male's color is coming in now- want to grow them a bit larger still first though- probably wait until they are a year old.
The little mellers I held back for myself are getting pretty large now and I picked a few imports up over the summer to go with them that are doing well. Had a siamese-twins pair of bearded dragons hatch a couple of weeks ago too- both perfect in every way but joined at the chest. For now I am seeing how they do- seem to be getting along but kind of clumsy at times- when everything is going well they have an arm on each others shoulders and the other arms and legs all on the ground. When one gets excited and the other does not- it ends up looking more like a wrestling match. Not sure what I am going to do with them yet- considering quality of life issues vs life itself.
