where to buy my cham!

ok so i still havent chosen where to buy my baby veiled chameleon!!:confused: i cant decide from chameleon farms a place that is around 7 hours away from here(shipping) and a local breeder an hour away! i like how chameleon farms interact with there chams and stuff but the shipping and the animal getting sick and stuff like that then i have to ship back seems like wayy to much money:eek::( and on the other hand the local breeder is way much closer and i can pick it out and stuff and if it gets sick i could just return it. but idk what to do i like both so much! i was convinced then ever to by from chameleon farms but now im thinking of a local breeder where i can see and choose (stuff like that). theres pros and cons
chameleon farms
pros: interacted daily,2 1/2 months old, nice parents, real healthy looking
cons:shipping is more than the lizard itself, something during shipping, getting sick, cant choose wich i want
local breeder
pros:real close,can pick out,if anything happens i can see what i can do(sick),really healthy
cons:i dont know if handled, 5 weeks old
i got a whole bunch of others i cant remember . i really dont know where to buy! and opinions!?:confused:

Can you ask the local breeder if they are handled and how often they are? If I could I would go with a local breeder. But I'm almost in your same shoes. I'm waiting for a breeder that requires shipping. I would love to be able to pick one out as that is part of the fun of bringing home the new family member.
For me local breeder has Nosy Be's
One I'm looking at and have been watching for just over a year now has Nosy Faly's
Really want Nosy Faly's but would settle for Nosy Be's.
Really just want a blue one.
So I'm waiting.
I guess go for the one you really want ask for photos to be sent and go look at the local breeder. Pick the one that is best then don't worry about the shipping issue. I would guess they both have the same guarantee.

I know the people who run the Chameleon Farm and they are great! They take very good care of their chameleons so I doubt you would get one that is sick when it shipped to you. I understand how you would be nervous about shipping, but it is very commonly done with chameleons and is usually successful. I also understand how you would want to pick it out yourself, so that is up to you, but I know the Chameleon Farm has great stock and I am sure whatever they send you would grow up beautiful!

That is my two cents. Good luck with your decision!

I would recommend talking with the local breeder. You may find that your expectations of having x number of chams to pick from may not be realistic. To add to that they may be leary of people knowing where the chams are due to theft and creepers. Talking to them will give you an idea of what to expect and how they deal with local transactions.

I did my transaction local, but it took building enough trust up front. I don't even talk to my family on how or exactly where the transaction happened
as a courtesy to the breeder because people talk and I like to keep that info on the DL.

I just got Milo (baby male veiled, sire is Driskel) last week from FLChams and couldn't be happier. He was boxed up Monday night and at my door Tuesday morning at 9:30am. He was eating that same day.

Let us know what you do decide. Lots of great comments so far. I was looking at Cham Farm as I see they have Melleri's.

Hey guys thanx for the responses!! Yupp I was talking to the breeder and he was real nice. He sent me pictures of them and looked real healthy! He was telling of the foods he feed his babies and what supplements, really informative:) and i was talking to someone who bought one from him and the chameleon looked gorgeous! he handled them every other day to clean out there tubs and stuff and lookeed like.he had alot to choose from!. Even thoe I really wanted to buy one from chameleon farms(more than convinced) Im now decideing to get it from the local breeder!:D thanx guys for all the responses.I'm getting it in 2 weeks! Ill be uploading pics in another thread so you can see my new cham :p:D

Good choice! Any time shipping can be avoided, I would chose that option unless there was a strong reason not too.

Sweet! I've heard great things about the breeders sponsored on this site, but an added bonus if you have an opportunity for a local purchase.

My boy was a hold back and it was a win win because if he turns out like daddy he could get lucky in the future.

Can't wait to hear when you get your cham. Super exciting and will be the longest two weeks of your life waiting haha. After 4 months of having mine it's still like day one, I love him a lot.
