Where to get feeders, and how much?

I'm curious to know where you all get your feeders, and how much you buy per chameleon. I will only have one....for now...and don't have room in my house to house a lot of feeders along with a cham. He will be about a 4 month old panther chameleon. I know I want to offer variety, but I'm not sure what will be available locally other than crickets. I have a feeling I'll just be making weekly trips to the local pet store to pick up crickets and whatever else I can find, and maybe buying 100 or so at a time.

I wish I had time and room to keep feeders, but with my other hobby, showing Great Danes, space in the house is limited.

Just for those concerned by that, my chameleon will be in a room away from dogs and the racket of daily life. I know they get stressed, and will be careful to separate the dogs from the cham.

My panther is a little older then yours will be, and he is doing well with 5 dozen crickets per week. I just buy them at my local petsmart. I also feed him a few silkworms a day, I have ordered through coastal silkworms and mulberry farms and I highly recommend mulberry farms(both sponsors of this site). You will need the silkworm feed (i use the pre made from mulberry farms, works very well) and a basking lamp to keep the temperatures high. Make sure to also purchase latex, non powder gloves, also available on their sight. They sell butterworms that keep well and make a good treat as well!

Hi
I breed most of my own bugs, but I do buy small numbers of hornworms, crickets and butterworms locally or online. And in the past I purchased silkworms online too. If you only have space to breed one or two bugs, try superworms or roaches. both are easy, take little space, and are quiet. The more variety of bugs you can provide to the chameleon, the better. A weekly trip to the pet store to buy crickets is okay, so long as they always have stock (I doubt they can guarantee it - so have a couple alternatives). Likely the pet shop will also stock superworms, maybe butterworms and others as well.

I'm more on Rosie's side of the spectrum....I only have 2 so breeding feeders would quickly overwhelm me with feeders. If you have a "reptile store" in your area, then they will likely become your best friends. My local reptile store sells feeders for far less than Petco (though, in the current shortage, only Petco seems to have crickets).

As Sandra noted, you can order them online but my feeling is that when you only need a few at a time, the shipping on that becomes prohibitive...I've settled on ordering phoenix worms online, buying crickets and any other treats locally. I think you just sort of have to decide what you can get locally and compare that to what you want to feed your animals....what you want to feed but can't get locally is what you order onlilne.
