which friendlier - veiled or panther

I am inclined to lean toward Panthers. Like many have said, it also depends on the animal. I have some who are super friendly, some who are like a junk yard dog, and everything in between! Best of luck and keep us posted!:)

My Veiled isnt particularly friendly. Most of the time he will hiss, shoot his tongue and lunge at me. Sometimes even try to bite me whilst on my hand. He's never actually hurt me though. I respect his wishes when he gets a bit mardy.

My panther is very friendly. He doesnt often climb out of his cage onto me, but he will come out of his cage by himself and then he will climb on me every time. He's only ever fired up once (at a pair of feeding tongues) and he's never hissed or gaped at me or anyone else.

Panthers get my vote for friendliess. But my Veiled get the comedy vote. He really is a character.

my chams go through a ''teenage'' stage when they will hiss and try to bite but when they get older they seem to tolrate you more but it is only tolerating.

i guess its like having a pet cat,

they only really want you to feed them and give them water!

if you do when a reptile that you can hold go for a beadie!! love them!

or a snake like a corn or milk-a horsefield tortoise.

what ever you choose make sure its right for you and you family befor you buy and that you can afford their need aswell.

frankiie!

Depends on the price I do love the panther but its expensive veiled's are less. Its your call im sticking to veiled I wouldnt handle it unless cleaning but I love its colors. Jacksons are pretty chilled too

well like many people said, it does just depend on the particular chameleon you pick out. I got my first and tried to hand feed and bowl feed and hold at least once a week. It didnt work, i love him, but he loves his home and doesnt like to come out. My other little girl right now is a vieled too, she loves to come out and be outside with me. When i got her i had a new plan, so i take her out every day, and bowl feed her, and shes totally happy. Just sits and relaxes. Anyway, i recommend a baby (not younger then 2 months) so you can raise him/her the way you want. I put up a youtube video on how to care/tame baby chams. here it is ! http://youtu.be/ABeogzF1Ocw hope it helps a little

We are not yet owners of a chameleon but are going to a reptile exhibit this weekend hoping to find a local breeder. Our main dilemma is whether to get a veiled or a panther. Friendliness is the most important factor (along with ease of keeping our chameleon alive-lol) to us.

So which is more friendly - the veiled or the panther?

Thanks!
Marla:)

I don't understand question

It's not the species but the individual chameleon it's self, I've had nice and nasty velid and panther chameleons, male and female. Some don't mind us and some like to be left to do there own thing witch suits me as I don't handle any of mine anyway

If you want a nice friendly reptile that will run to you for food and attention, get a leopard gecko! They take no time at all to get used to you and are super cute! Also pretty easy to look after as far as reptiles go but do require special care to keep them healthy. They are fascinating to watch too. We have 2 leopard geckos and they are so cool!

We have a female vieled. Although she is not aggressive she is VERY shy and doesn't like us much. I don't mind that I can't hold her (really I do but I'm pretending not to :)) But it makes it really difficult to clean as I can't get her out. She tolerates me cleaning but always keeps an eye on me and bolts if I get too close. Her shyness also makes it difficult when trying to modify her enclosure because she won't come out and stresses if I'm shaking things around. She will cup feed and even sometimes hand feed but it is tricky doing what you need to do without stressing them. Stress can kill chameleons so it is a BIG issue.

EDIT: ah I didn't realise this was an old thread! You are the Lady that has just lost her panther :( Sorry.

chameleons should not be handled unless you are cleaning a cage or moving them to new cage or taking to a vet. veileds are named the most aggresive but from expierence chameleons are not friendly by no means! some have gotten lucky and got some really nice ones that let you hold them but some do not even let you near their cage! if you are looking for a lizard you can hold you should look into a bearded dragon

who says????? why CAN'T you handle them? Give me the reasons why you should not handle them besides the stress everyone talks about? Does stress shorten their lives? If so do you have statistics to show this?

I see no problem with handling it depends on your chameleon most people will agree panther is the most social out of the others species I at times handle my juvenile carpets or baby jacksons no problem but I dont over do it I see geckos stress more like crested they lose theyre tails easily.

I just want her to back her statement as to why they should never be handled. Explain why. If they are friendly and don't mind it then why not?

Panthers! Well in my opinion, I have owned both Veileds and Panthers, every panther has been friendly and craved attention and every Veilied would go crazy if I even walked by the cage....
