Which is better??

I'm interested in opinion here also!

I would be curious to hear what people have to say about the two options you are looking at as I too have been looking at both and trying to figure out whom I want to get my guys their "big boy" cages from!
:p

they both look the same only thing that is differant that i can see is the diy cage has a stainless steel handle whilst the lllreptile cage dosn't.
i have the lllreptile cage and im very happy with it

Diy cages have different latched and little handles on the door for easy opening.

Where as LLL cages have the swivel thing latch that closes the cage.

The thing i don't like about DIY cages is that the bottom is made to be screwed closed instead of the other cages you can open the bottom part for easy cleaning.

I know you can just choose not to put in the screws in the bottom part of the DIY cage making it open the same way as the lll cage...but then there is no latch to hold it closed.. and that means it can open when you don't mean it to

Other than that, they are both good cages and the prices are good

Thanx Dez!

Well for me that is a big deciding factor... I have two different cages now one where the bottom part lifts up for easy cleaning and one that doesn't and I definatley will not ever buy another cage where the bottom does not lift up... In looking at the DIY I was wondering if the bottom part lifted up or not so your post has been helpful!

I actually just bought the LLL cage for the same reason, the bottom opens. The one I have now does not open and like you, I will never buy one like that again. Besides that, the LLL cage is one of the cheapest I've seen for that size! Cheaper than making your own.

Wow!!

All your guys experience with these cages have been ridiculously helpful, thank you so much. So DIY cages do open at the bottom? ..and theres no shipping fee right?
I can tell there both nice benfiticial cages..i think DIY is winning me out :D

DIY cages are designed to screw shut at the bottom so they do not open. Like I said before you can choose not to put the screws in the bottom and they will open..... but there is not latch to hold it closed so i can (and has) popped open when i did not want it to

ooh mhm..

ok i see what your saying, thanks.

I like that DIY cages are stainless steel and coated with plastic to prevent moisture problems. ...If i was to go with LLL then im adding a $25+ shipping fee...no thanks lol

Yeap it's free shipping. And It was fast too. Just few days and my cages where here.

Or as an option you could consider what those of us have to say who have kept chameleons for many years and will only use cages from LLL reptile. H honestly I have a lot of cages and they last go together and come part easy and you always know where it get more.:)

My experience, for what it's worth...I bought the DIY cage and also the canopy for it. 1)The canopy was a total waste, because you can't put the right bulbs in it (Reptisun 5.0) that chams need. The customer service person tried to talk me OUT of using the Reptisun 5.0 bulb so I would buy their canopy, which I did. I got suckered, because I couldn't return it for a refund when I hadn't even opened it.
2) The cage itself isn't as 'tough' as I'd hoped. The door bent soon after I bought it. But for the price, it was fine. However, the bottom of the cage is flimsy - so if you add a heavy planter it's kind of a nightmare to move (and you always have to move it if you want to clean up the water from your dripping and misting).

**I ended up ordering a "bottom" for the DIY cage from LLL that acts as a reservoir for the overflowing water from misting. I wish now I'd bought THEIR cage, because the bottom I bought would have fit much better than with the DIY cage.

At any rate - these cages are really nothing but screens nailed together. I'm convinced I will end up creating my own cage at some point that is much cheaper to make and much more durable and practical.

My latch broke off my DIY cage after about two weeks of use - I'm relying on a couple of twisties now to close the door. And the crickets are always escaping...

hmmm...

alright well i appreciate your feedback..im wondering that if the latches wold fall off or break..if i could fit either a strong magnet or even a clamp so the cage wouldnt be useless...cuz escaping crickets is my worst nightmare already.
thanks

the best

for my experience I have both but the DIY cages with the stainless a lot easier to clean, open fast and close tight go for DIY.

LLL cages are cheaper even with shipping I think. LLL cages are amazing. I wouldn't buy any other aluminum cage.

Pain it the butt!

After you realize that you don't have easy access to cleaning the bottom of the cage as you do with the bottoms that flip up you may be wishish you paid the $25 shipping... I'll tell ya, being someone that has both types I can't wait to upgrade my one guy to a larger cage... I'd pay $100 for shipping just to have the flip open bottom. Saving the initial shippg fee to me is not worth it in the long run, not only Have I found it inconveinat but you can't even get it "as clean" simply because you cannot access it and bacteria is bad for Chams...

My next cages will be from the Kammer's which is where I got my first made by Habitat designs (nice) or LLL cage.... as recommended by allot of long time keepers here who know what I already know in just a couple of months... flip up bottom...priceless! (too me anyway, but to each his own...)
