White patches

Junior just came home from a visit from Grandmas (we were out of town) and has some patches on his veil and spine. They are white but can turn black. Sometimes it is brighter white than others.

His bulb burned out so grandma got him a different light, Retipsun 5.0UVB.

He wasn't eating much before he left and didn't eat much while we were gone.

We was staying in a different terrarium. A smaller, mesh cage, opposed to his glass terrarium, which is a bit larger.

He is moving and active.

Also he has not pooped for a few days.

Has anybody seen this?

Hello and welcome to the forums. It would help if you could fill out the info "How to ask a Question" Copy, paste and fill in your answers with as much detail as possible. Some more pics would also be helpful. Need clear pic of area in question from side and top. Hoping it's nothing but could possibly be a burn with a new(different Bulb.) Did you mom use a new basking bulb or different watage, or closer distance to it from when he's with you?

Those just came in? Mine has had them since I got him, about a month or so ago.

Most pictures I've seen with veileds have those spots. Just natural patterns.

The patches do turn black too when his color changes. It just doesn't look like it's natural pigmentation. His heat lamp is 75w moonlight.

Yes he definitely was trying to get closer to the top and light. We noticed that while we were trying to acclimate him to new cage a couple days before. Probably because of the lack of ability to regulate heat and humidity in the mesh type cage he wanted more heat.

He didn't have his usually perch and hammock because of the mesh cage.

These just came while we were gone and have a different look than his other natural patches.

If they are burns what is the best treatment plan? I can't get him into vet until Friday. They can give me some of that silver stuff.

One of two things.
1. The animal is about to shed.

2. These are burns.
Gauging by your set up and the pic with him able to get all the way to the top directly under the light. This could very well have caused this. You have to create a safe basking spot and distance to not get burned. A. Use a digital thermo with a probe. The temp on the highest branch drirectly under the basking light should be 90*. B. Now for distance, you dont want to set up his cage so that he can reach the top screen directly under the lights. Screen can get pretty hot from the bulb and you dont want him to get burns that can be avoided.

Yes, please fill out the questionnaire. I am thinking burn also. You will need a trip to the vet and I would adjust his spot so no part of him is touching the screen. Not sure if that light is good for him. They need to light sources UVB 5.0 linear bulb and a regular white household light bulb for basking. Size depends on temp in basking spot somewhere from 8-12 inches below the bulb. I have a 40 wtt bulb and temp in basking is 80-82F. You will have to check yours. Sometimes if you use a new bulb they can be use to getting real close to the old one and the new one burns them because it is stronger. May help to raise a new bulb a little higher at first and every day or 2 lower it until in right place so the can get use to it. I would have to do this with fish lights for corals too.

He just shed a couple weeks ago. So pretty sure it's not that.

I'm pretty sure after research that these are burns.

He is getting big and we have not adjusted his perch and stuff for that.

Just did that. And the burns did come after he spent a few days in a new smaller cage. So that was not good.

We are adjusting the branches and stuff as you suggested. Thanks.

Any tips for the burns themselves. We are getting him into vet asap.

In my opinion Fridays vet visit should be ok. Please make adjustments to your cage so he can't do it again. They don't feel it hot enough to move away. Make sure they keep clean and watch out for abnormal behaviour.

get him in a 2x2x4 foot tall cage.
