Who Knows how to sex Turtles?

Yellow Belly sliders in particular.

I know gobs of info about chameleons but my knowlage of turtles are limited

I have had this turtle for about a year and a half. When I got it it was the size of a silver dollar.

Its name is Sal Manilla..... Sal for short . I am thinking Sal is a female but I am guessing. Anyone have an opinion?

and is Sal is a female will she lay eggs without being mated like chameleons do?

I am still not sure but maybe Sal is still too young to tell. The front nails are semi long but not as long as in the photo.

i could be doing this wrong as im not a real big turtle man but this is my way. look at the vent on the tail. females will be closer to the shell where the males will be out a bit on the tail..

In most species, the female's tail is shorter and broader at the base. And again, in most species, the male's plastron (shell underneath) will be concaved just slightly, so when he mounts a female, he "fits" kind of.

It's hard to tell what you have, from the video, but the "baby" looks happy!

Females won't lay eggs in water, however.. as far as I know.. they will lay infertile eggs.

Have you ever seen the ventriloquist Jeff Dunham? He has a character that is a Jalapeno on a stick... thats what his little tail reminds me of

Gosh! I haven't watched Jeff Dunham in a very long time.. have to go searching for some videos online.

I think your little one's nails are pretty long, but as he matures they will get 'Edward Scissorhands' long. It's comical, really.
