Why does my cham do this

He was alone in his cage we walked by his mouth was wide and he was puffed up for no reason...he also ate two crickets really fast about an hour ago... uploadfromtaptalk1396828933131.jpg
 
He is just being grumpy and territorial. I assume since he is a baby, he is new to you and his environment. He is defending himself by puffing up.

You can let him learn to be friendlier towards you or not view you as a threat as much by hand feeding him crickets, mealworms, superworms, silkworms, hornworms, dubias, and other feeders. :)
 
Yes he is new and I do have feed him all of those he comes to me when I want to handle him. But I just found it odd that we wasn't bothering him and his mouth was wide open an puffed up like that for no reason

Sometimes they do it to spread out and get more heat from their basking lights. Or they do it to loosen shed skin sometimes :)
