I think with Chams the majority of the community seem to be fairly new. They are just more exposed to those "mainstream" animals, i know i was. So as a stepping-stone this is what they start with. Then comes the obsession and the constant research, then the awareness of the other "less mainstream" species.
The #1 question I hear is "I'm new to Chams , what species should I start with?"... Most , if not all the responses are Veiled/Panther. I guess this is based on info/animal availability along with being hardy and more forgiving to new owner mistakes.
I'm sure if I made a thread stating that I'm new but I have the passion and funds to keep a Parsonii as my 1st Cham, the majority would advise against it. Many members have even made statements that they welcome the high price tags for Parsons so they don't end up in the wrong hands of the noobs.
Anyway. to sum it all up! There is always a starting point, with Chams it seems to be Veiled and Panthers. Some owners are content staying there and others like myself in due time and with more study and research will venture out to the less-public species.
