Wild caught?

Hello,
I am going to be ading a few Ambilobes in the next few months and thought about purchasing wild caught adults. My question or concern woulfd be do I need to take them to my vet to be checked/treated for parasites? Is it standard practice for importers or resalers to treat them prior to putting them up for sale?
Thanks!

Yes, Fecals should be done as soon as you see any poo from the animal. If no parasites were found this should also be done in another 2-4 weeks. If your not familiar with wild caughts or chameleon in general. It may be a good idea for a vet to give the chameleon a good look over, inside the mouth, eye/turrets, skin, bones, feet, vent, etc. Done right, a wild caught is going to cost you two times what you would pay for a cb.

No, most importers or middle man wholesellers do not treat the animals.

Thanks for the info! Im not new to Chams but I have never purchased a wild caught animal. Thanks again.

Some people (though not all or even most) who sell WCs will treat the animal with panacur, but it only kills certain parasites and the people who give it to them rarely, if ever, actually do fecals on them to treat the animals for the parasites they actually have. For WC animals, fecals should be done, but it might be detrimental to the animal to treat them right away depending on their condition. If you decide to buy WC animals, research how to acclimate them and treat them for any problems they may have. Also try to buy from very good importers or chameleon breeders that occasionally have/import WCs. It is possible to buy WCs that are in fairly good condition if you buy from the right places or see the animals in person first.

Thanks Pssh. I'll search quite a bit before I pick up a wild caught. Not sure if I will actually go WC but I'll see what I can find when I'm ready to buy another.

My chameleon is wc and we have had lots of expensive trips to the vet just to get rid of parasites And a thermal burn he must of gotten while in transit, if I had to do it again I would consult a breeder and go from there:) but I wouldn't trade Kevin or our experience for anything he is a wonderful Cham and his illnesses bonded us!
