Will the Cham eat a small lizard?

after a good night sleep i have come to my senses and realized that i was not having the best attitude about this. chammyhouse i know you are all about caring for the chams and well i am too.. me giving my cham a lizard is my choice and i know like u mentioned it isnt in my best interest to keep doing so and i will definetly keep that in mind, i figured you guys thought or i made u think that i fed my cham lizards like every once in a while,,but that is really not the case i just want to clear that up.
this forum is for evrybody including kids so it is best to keep it as a good enviroment.

*Shakes hand* i apologize if i seemed harsh on you as well.

Sorry to bring this thread back, but instead of starting a whole new thread on the same subject I'd rather just post in this one.

My 4 month old panther chameleon is kept in an outdoor enclosure 24/7. This morning I noticed a baby anole had somehow snuck into the cage. Before I could go in and remove it from the cage my panther chameleon had already went for it and snatched it with his tongue. I came on here to research some threads to see if it would be harmful to him. Looks like it won't kill him or anything, but that if offered too much can cause some problems. It's good to hear that one anole won't be bad for my chameleon. I was just rather surprised that at only 4 months of age my panther decided to go ahead and eat the lizard.

They are instinctively attracted to moving things that a small enough be eaten. It's not like your cham made a conscience choice to eat a vertebrate over something else. Think about it like dogs - if you leave out a tub of ice cream on the floor your dog is going to eat it. They don't chose to do so for any particular reason other than it is available to them. They don't evaluate the food choice for particular nutrients or anything before eating it. Is the ice cream good for them? A little bit occasionally is okay, but a lot or often certainly is not!

Just for the sake of the debate it has been observed by Ardi Abate that some chameleon species in the wild in Madagascar eat small vertebrates. Two species witnessed eating vertebrates in the wild are F. pardalis and F. oustaleti. As well F. oustaleti was observed eating a sub adult F.pardalis and was suspected as being a regular vertebrate consumer. It has been theorized that other larger chameleon species consume small lizards as well.
