wood cage

i have a cage that i am modifying for a chameleon and was wondering if their is anything i should not use to waterproof the wood?

If the wood is on the outside If the screen as opposed to the screen wrapping around the wood just make sure wat ever u use has plenty of time to dry

yes i thought so i was looking at a lot of cages and seen this one and could not pass it up

It is very nice! Is it screen? Looks plexiglass or glass and that'd be poor ventilation for a bird or cham without a fan.. I could just be missing something.

If u allow it to dry between misting and at night should be okay. But im sure there's a waterproof stain u could use like I said though LOTS of time to dry. I don't see a problem ur cham wont chew on it. Id give it a week with a fan on it after stain IMO

i have some paint stuff that i was thinking of using . it is for waterproofing and is a rubber stuff the front and back are plexiglass... i removed it from the sides and replacing with screen

thanks .... i went to the pet store and seen a veiled chameleon and i got to have one so i have been researching it and looking for a cage and found this one . i don't have the chameleon yes i am still setting up for one .

polyerathane from lowes works fine....

just make sure u dont put the cham in it till after u can put ur nose on the stain and not smell anything.

What are you going to do about drainage? Your not gonna want to have standing water in that cage. Even if its sealed your going to need to get the water out of the cage somehow. I would drill small drain holes in the bottom and put a catch can beneath the main cage.

Having any standing water in there is a breeding ground for bacteria esp with the presence of feces being introduced by the cham from time to time.

Nice cabinet, hope you get all the bugs worked out.....

Yes much easier to set up the drainage before you put the cham in it then afterward.

On my cage its regular pine with some sort of rubber paint. smelled for a couple of days but eventually aired out

my wife has a snake and she sprays the tank with a mist and the heat lamp keeps her tank dry so if i have a few plants and a 3 light bulbs or even just the 2 i would think it should not be that wet

a snake isnt really the same as a cham when it comes to watering.
the cham will be getting misted many times a day and have a dripper
